Kids love it!

by Vianne

What a terrific way to spend the day by the river! My kids not only love looking at all the fish inside the acquarium, but they get a kick out of watching the ships go down the river, too. This place is hard to beat and we visit several times a year. We've found out that the neighborhood is full of kid-friendly places, too. There's the new insectarium, the La. Children's Museum, and Chez Clay paint-your-own-pottery studio all within ten blocks of each other. It's hard to keep the kids home, with all this fun close by!

Not exactly a great aquarium. Update this site.

by kds1107

Need to update this site. This site said 3 hrs free parking at the Wall of Whales with ticket stub...we were still charged $5.00 and were under the 3 hrs. This site also gives incorrect admission prices because we arrived at 4 p.m. and for 2 adults / 2 children it was $70.00 including the 3D IMAX. This site says $16 for adults and 9.50 for children...actual cost-$22.50 for adults / $17.50 for children not including IMAX (extra for IMAX). We would've at least expected a partial discount for arriving late, but no. The IMAX Whales & Dolphins 3D movie was interesting but the 3D parts actually left us having to close one eye and with a headache. We will not be returning and if you've been once you definitely do not need to go again. Look to Chattanooga's amazing aquarium or the new one in Atlanta, GA.

  • Pros: on the RiverWalk
  • Cons: to pricey

Amazing experience

by dmenkes

I was taken here by my parents on a schoolday in the fall so it wasn't very crowded. As I understand it, it gets insane in the summer and on weekends. I'm not sure if I'd want to go then. I remember walking through the giant tube with the massive tank of every kind of fish imaginable. The sting ray exhibit alone was worth going for.

Creatures that hail from the Caribbean to the mighty Mississippi go about their daily business all for your amusement.

by Contributor

Overview
Visitors get up close to thousands of creatures from the depths of North and South American waters. A tunnel made of see-through acrylic delivers patrons into the aquatic action of the Caribbean Reef exhibit. Jumbo stingrays skim overhead and sharks lurk just beyond the walls in a surreal reversal of a goldfish bowl.

The Experience

The Mississippi Gallery includes white alligators and sea turtles, and a Gulf of Mexico showcase--replete with requisite oil rig--features more pals of "Jaws" and various species of fish. The Aquarium of the Americas also houses jellyfish and penguins, plus plenty of land-dwelling birds and reptiles. Don't miss the playful sea otters; you won't find them anywhere else near here. Awash in "infotainment," there are hourly stage shows and a unique petting zoo of deep-sea creatures.

Don't visit on a rainy saturday

by katytexas

My family made the mistake of going on a rainy Saturday. The place was so overcrowded you could not see the exhibits let alone read about them. There were crying kids everywhere. Parents with strollers blocking the view. It was a terrible experience. I have been to several aquariums and this one is probably good if I could have seen the exhibits. If I return it will be during a school day and hopefully not so crowded. I Think the managers should come up with some form of crowd control.

  • Pros: probably the exhibits
  • Cons: , crowded

fantastic

by moondragon00

I live in Oregon...the free willy state...this aquarium puts the Oregon Coast Aquarium to shame. It is absolutely fabulous. I couldn't pick the best part...all of it was amazing. The white alligator, shark and sting ray tank, the amazon river....those fish are amazingly ginormous!

This place is a must see for everyone...even for those of us who live by an aquarium.

Walk or ride the street car trolly thing...enjoy the beautiful Mis'sippi river.

  • Pros: handicapped friendly, great for everyone, priced fairly

What a geat place. You can go back many times and still not see it all. I never was really into fish until going to the Aquarium. Now I am hooked.

Alright

by supanpong_s

The aquarium was fine. You get to see huge sting rays, plenty of sharks, and a white alligator. There are some pretty interesting things to do like touch a shark and starfish. However there is one major fault, its really small and you can see the whole aquarium in less then one hour. Honestly, unless you are going as a family it is not worth the money or time.
