Beautiful rooms, wonderful location, friendly and warm service

by stellagroove2000 at Citysearch

My husband and I recently stayed at Hotel Monteleone and had a wonderful visit. The front desk staff was friendly and accomodating to our needs. Our room was lovely. It not only had the basics (clean, fragrant, beautiful views of the city, well furnished, etc) but the bathroom was the best feature! It was marble, with a separate shower stall and a large tub for two, with jets along the side of the bath tub. The bathrobes and towels were plush and high quality and the sheets must have been north of 500 thread count. We ordered room service one morning, and it was delivered on time with food that was both delicious and hot. We would go back in a heartbeat. We truly enjoyed our experience at the Hotel Monteleone!

  • Pros: Location, Price, Friendly staff, views from hotel room, bathroom
  • Cons: No cons.

Classic New Orleans Hotel Is The Best! Outstanding, Friendly Staff! Famous Carousel Bar!

by jaymaygm at Citysearch

The Monteleone, is the only place we stay, when we visit the Big Easy. And they were up and running shortly after Katrina, with a limited staff. Our last visit, was like going to a good friends house for the weekend. Some college kids were kind of noisy one night, and I mentioned it to the front desk, and we were moved and upgraded at no extra charge. And the renovated rooms are lovely. Mornings always stared in the LeCafe for breakfast. That staff, was so friendly, it was like having coffee with your best friend in the morning. And after a day/night of drinking/eating, coming back to the hotel, it was always a night cap at the legendary Carousel Bar. It's on Royal St. with all those wonderful antique/galleries, and one block away from Bourbon St. and the noise. This is our New Orleans home. Five Stars!

  • Pros: Beautiful Rooms, Staff, Location, Food & Drinks! Five Stars!
  • Cons: None! Are You Kidding!

Stately French Quarter retreat is a favorite of lovers and world leaders.

by Contributor at Citysearch

In Short
A landmark since 1886, the Monteleone is the largest and oldest hotel in the French Quarter. Its extravagant lobby and elegant appointments have made it the choice of many world-famous travelers, including Tennessee Williams, William Faulkner, Truman Capote, foreign dignitaries and royalty. Every guestroom is a first-class suite, and a rooftop pool and fitness center offer views of the Quarter and Mississippi River. Its famous Carousel Bar also is a favorite for romance-minded locals and visitors.

If you're looking for a wonderful hotel in the French Quarter (close to everything!) without the noise of Bourbon St. - this is it!! My husband and I try to stay here whenever we're in New Orleans. The carousel bar is wonderful as is the staff (particularly the concierge)!

  • Pros: location, bar area, concierge

In the heart of N'awlins

by krugerio at Citysearch

My wife and I visited New Orleans pre-Katrina at the end of November 2005. It's located right at the edge of the French Quarter. It was perfectly situated for exploring the city. We loved being able to walk home at night from all the restaurants and hot spots. The Hotel is only a block off of Bourbon Street.

The Hotel is furnished very nicely. You don't feel as if youre in the typical bland hotel room. It's also large enough so you don't feel as if your being scrutinized either.

The topper to all of this was their Carousel bar in the Hotel Lobby. It was nice to come back and have a nightcap in this one of a kind gem (Don't worry. The bar doesn't rotate so fast that you get dizzy).

  • Pros: Location, Atmosphere, Lobby Bar

Katrina can't keep us away for aniversary 31

by happyinno at Citysearch

31 years ago I spent my first night in New Orleans at the Monteleone. I loved it. My husband and I have spent several aniversaries at the hotel. We had debated on coming because of Katrina, but when we got the nice email from the manager thank us for planning our trip with them, we where very happy we did. This hotel is beutiful. The people are great. Especial, Eddie at the Carousel Bar. He makes us feel special. The hotel is centrally located. Rooms are small but very comfortable. Information lady seems note as friendly as the rest of the staff. We will always stay at this hotel.

  • Pros: atmosphere, Carousel Bar, historic
  • Cons: unfriendly Info clerk, hard to get rooms

A fun place a bit off Bourbon St

by ocby at Citysearch

I was here just before Fat Tuesday. The food was Great. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable The Carousel Bar is something to experience. The room was very nice(what I saw of it) It is a thing you want to do to have that "Mardi Gras feeling. Loets of people having fun. The only bad thing was some of the elevators were shut down, but I am sure that is long since fixed. Hope you have fun.

  • Pros: Goood Food, Great Bar
  • Cons: Still doing upkeep?

thanks for the memories

this is NEW ORLEANS - the conventions - the parades - the people - the location - the bar -

I LOVE this place - wouldn't consider staying anywhere else when in NO - who cares if the rooms are small, why are you in your room when so much is happening?

Disappointed

by ashleymoo at Citysearch

We chose this hotel based on some reviews we read on travel guides, but we were disappointed. We realized that "historic" is just a euphemism for "really, really old." The facade and the lobby are beautiful, but our room was very, very shabby. The bathroom was pitifully outdated. We could not sleep much for the two nights we stayed, because of the noise from other guests (thin wall?), who were shouting for hours. The frontdesk did not respond to our complaints. Stay here if the only thing you care about is being in the French Quarters.

  • Pros: location
  • Cons: shabby

Liked It and Would Stay Again

by jade3 at Citysearch

Often imbibed at atmospheric, revolving Carousel Bar, but never stayed at the hotel until this trip. Our corner room was small, lacked the queen bed we'd reserved, but was nice. Difference in room rate was adjusted by the manager once we provided proof of rate we'd been guaranteed through Orbitz. Service seems indifferent in general. "Doorman" nonchalantly opened the door on occasion; "Receptionist" at check-in was less than friendly. This is rare, considering the impressive and genial service encountered at EVERY other hotel (Royal Sonesta, Le Meridien, Prytania Park, Pontchartrain) I've stayed at in New Orleans. However, the woman who refilled our mini-bar was cheery and just GREAT! In addition, LOVED the rooftop pool and adjoining area. Would stay here again simply because the manager was kind enough to adjust the bill, because the Carousel Bar is wonderful for drinks, and the pool area was so relaxing.

  • Pros: Great location, Carousel Bar, Rooftop pool
  • Cons: Small rooms, Indifferent service
