Where else can you get good food at cheap prices with an infitely classy and yet distinctively casual vibe

by catotheelder

From the gorgeous courtyard to the wait staff of classy gentlemen in bow-ties to the consistent strains of classical music to the 18th century environs... Simply put, Napoleon house is a classic. Great as a bar or an afternoon lunch stop, and not to be forgotten for dinner parties, company events, or receptions. The fair is pretty standard New Orleans bistro food made the right way and sold at a great price for the French Quarter ($6-10). Napoleon House is the best place to destress and relax during lunch. And be sure to try a Pimm's cup.

If you are only in New Orleans for a short time, Napoleon House should definitely make your top list of lunch spots to try out.

  • Pros: Great atmosphere, good drinks (Mario at the bar is a mix master), good prices

Best Bloody Mary in town!

by cagey_a

Didn't have a chance to eat there, but did enjoy sitting at the beautiful old bar on two occasions. Mario at the bar makes the best bloody mary EVER! Cheap beer and good Pimm's cups. Great atmosphere!

Best Value in NOLA

by mary1raymond

We love Napoleon House. You can stop in for a helping of affordable jambalaya/muffaletta, and it's GOOD! Unless you're famished, you could split one muffaletta with someone, along with a cold Abita Springs beer, and feel content. One day we did have to wait awhile for our waiter, but it happened only once. Atmosphere is casual to quaint, depending on where you sit, and the place is clean. The courtyard is delightful. It may be best to go there at "inbetween times" when they're not so busy.

  • Pros: Sections in menu are very affordable ~ and GOOD!
  • Cons: Service can be spotty but overcome with a little patience.

Still they survive!

Even after the hurricane, Napolean House survives! Love the Pimm's cups, and their bread pudding is a;ways a treat!

Relieved it's still there!!!

by Carlosbob

Napoleon House is one of my favorite haunts in the French Quarter. I was hugely relieved when I found it intact and, mostly, unchanged in my first visit since Katrina. The atmosphere is wonderful, the historical surroundings, dim lighting, and classical music really set mood. The staff is very friendly, the food is great, and the drinks are cold. Right now they have limited hours and menu, due to a shortage of staff (which is pretty common in New Orleans right now). You must have the Jambalaya. If the cheese tray is available when you visit, it makes for a great mid-day snack.

It's located on the corner of St. Louis and Chartres, so if you are staying at the Omni Hotel across the street, you have no excuse for not stopping by.

Low-key meeting spot rich in character and romance, famous for a near miss with a spot in history.

by Contributor

In Short
Napoleon House was supposedly built by French loyalists in the hopes that it would be used by Napoleon Bonaparte, who was exiled on Elba at the time. With classical music providing a genteel background, the restaurant-bar sports a dark, quiet and comfortable ambience, making it a hangout for bohemian and eclectic types. While the cafe serves sandwiches and traditional local fare, Girod's Bistro, a separate restaurant, offers upscale cuisine including grilled duck, seafood and tapas selections.

Our Favorite Place in the Big Easy

by mwparks

My wife and I visit NO as often as possible. And Napoleon House is always a must visit experience. The bar, inside dining, and court yard are all wonderful experiences. One one of our visits it was my wife's birthday, and the dining room was closed...but they allowed us to sit anyway...and it was so cool as we were the only diners in the room with candlelight and an attentive waiter. It was a birthday we will never forget. It isn't really possible for my wife and I to visit New Orleans without one or two stops at Napoleon House.

Great bar and Restaurant

by jreeves997

This is by far the best restaurant I have ever been to. The food is excellent and reasonably priced and the service is very professional. The bar makes you feel like you are in a movie, too. However, the ambience takes the cake, ESPECIALLY the courtyard. Top notch, highly recommended, period, end of sentence!

PIMMS cups all around!!

by jeverett_81

Picture it! You're in the middle of the french quater, its a toasty 95 degrees, the air's as thick as the mud the Mississippi flows over, and it seems as tho there isn't a breeze in the entire state of luzianna! Suddenly you see the green coppola and you know you're saved!! NAPOLEON HOUSE!!! have a seat at the bar for a pimms, or get a table and experience the joy that is the muffaletta! Enjoy a nice long refreshing sit, and take in the atmosphere! but beware if u have tourist written all over your face, the wait staff can smell you a mile away!

  • Pros: Atmosphere, PIMMS CUP, classical music

The Muffulata was awesome!

by snoopy1977

I really enjoyed my dining experience at The Napolean House. We had lunch there on the last day of our trip and it was a great send off. Although we had to wait 40 minutes for a table, it was well worth it. We were seated in the patio area in the back and that added to the ambience. We ordered 2 Pimm's Cups (the restaurant's signature drink) and the Muffulata for 2. The food was SO good (the Pimm's Cups were very refreshing). Although the service was average, the waiter did bring me some additional souvenirs I hadn't expected for my scrapbook. The value was very reasonable. The history made the dining experience even more exciting!

  • Pros: Food, ambience
  • Cons: The wait was long, Service a hit & miss
