The Scene
This hotel holds a coveted position on a major parade route during Carnival, when guests can view the processions from a huge, second-floor ballroom. Modern paintings by some of New Orleans' most prominent artists flank its second-floor lobby.

The Details
The 479 luxurious guest rooms and suites are large and well-designed. Some have four-poster beds, and many have balconies with views of St. Charles Avenue and its quaint streetcars. Each is also equipped with the basics; a few nice extras include a phone in the bathroom, a miniature TV in the vanity area and high-speed Internet access. Facilities range from a gym to an elegant hair-nail-massage salon. Two restaurants include the casual Pete's Pub and the Veranda with a lush and dramatic glass-topped dining area filled with tropical greenery.
