Best Chinese in New Orleans. I am surprised at negative reviews of this place. I've never had a bad meal there. The service has always been fine. The food has always been high quality and fresh. Unlike some places, the chicken is all white meat without paying extra and having to ask for it. The wonton soup is not just some bland broth with a couple of noodles - it is flavorful, full of pork wontons and even has chinese BBQ pork in it. The lunch specials are a good value - a wonton, soup of your choice, fried rice and an entree - plenty of food for the price. I cannot speak the other reviewer's problem with the delivery since I always pick up my orders but I've never gotten a wrong order or even had to wait. And the food was hot and fresh. I've not found any other Chinese (well, the American version of it anyway) place that was as good in the New Orleans area.

Not what it used to be. Five Happiness is not what it used to be. I'm not sure what has gone wrong, but the service is worse than ever as well as the food tasting average. I used to enjoy going to this restaurant for the experience, excellent service, and fantastic food... now it's not worth the price. If you haven't gone here, try it once. I much prefer China Orchid further down Carrollton, almost to St. Charles.

Horrible Restaurant and Customer Service. I used to love Five Happiness, I thought that it was the best and most authentic chinese food in the city. Of late, their service has completely gone down the tubes. Not only do they not get my phone number right (and insist that I have given them an incorrect phone number), they claim that they gone out to deliver my food two or three times. Also, they claim that the address I gave them was incorrect, and that there was no such address. This has happened twice now, the first time, I had to wait nearly two hours for my order. When the delivery boy finally arrived, I watched as he ran to deliver someone else's food first, and then came back to deliver mine, which they gave me the food that they had sent out the first time, which at that point was not fresh and tasted horrible. That they did not offer any discount or some sort of compensation for the terrible quality of their food is inexcusable. The second time, I never even received my food. I will not ever order from them again, and I recommend the same from all persons who ask me.

Alright if you really need Chinese food. For the area and a quick bite, this place is okay. I've definitely had better, but with New Orleans not having a large Chinese population, you can't really expect much from this place. Service is barely with a smile and prices are overpriced for what you get. But it's close to where we live and feeds the craving when you want Chinese food. I will say that the new renovations since the hurricane makes the new ambiance of the restaurant appealing, but the waitstaff makes you feel like they're doing you a favor for waiting on your table.

Terrible service and Food. I have only been there once, but i have to admit that the food is terrible and the service was bad as well. They managed to mess up my order and bring me something completely different and then when i actually got what i ordered it tasted terrible. This was one of the rare times that I actually didnt touch my meal even though I was hungry.

This bustling Mid-City standard packs 'em in with consistent, high-quality Mandarin and Szechuan dishes.. The Scene
With its rich red wood and shiny black-lacquer decor, Five Happiness gives an extra polish to standard Chinese dining. During any dinner or lunch rush, the restaurant hums with activity. Huge dining rooms are packed, while waiters glide smoothly between tables, ranging from tiny two-tops to 20-person celebration spreads. At peak times, expect a bit of a wait.

The Food
The restaurant specializes in the spicy Szechuan and Mandarin dishes of the Chinese tradition. There's a good mix of noodles, clay pots, vegetarian specialties and non-standard seafood dishes. The wonton soup is a standout: Tender dumplings and thin pork shavings float in a bright, herb-spiked stock. The meaty combination lo mein features chunks of pork, beef and shrimp fragrantly combined with broad stir-fried noodles.

Best Chinese in N.O.. I'd rate this as the best Chinese food in the N.O. area (a step above Trey Yuen), but you have to know what to order. Order a specialty, not the cheap stuff (which is only mediocre). The shrimp with pecans and sesame seeds is out of this world. Hot and sour / wonton soups are great. Crab rangoons are some of the best you'll find. General's Chicken is excellent. Service is usally very good also.

American style Chinese food. If you are into American Style Chinese Food, this is the place to go. No where near Chinese Food you get in Southern Cal.

If this is the best, eat thai or creole. Everyone I've met recommended 5 Happiness as the best Chinese in town. If that is true, I will wait until I take a trip elsewhere to eat Chinese food again. New Orleans has so many great places to eat but this is not one of them. The chicken was dry, the hot and sour soup was bland, and the vegetarian egg rolls contained unidentifiable (meat?) items. If you are craving asian food, go for Thai. There are plenty of better (and cheaper) places for Thai.
