Beautiful Dresses, Great service

by irishgirl77 at Citysearch

The dresses in Yvonne Lafleur are just beautiful, and I love the way they hang from the ceiling. I thought the dresses would be way out of my price range, but they were actually much more reasonable than other dress shops in the city. The staff was very professional and upbeat. After I found my perfect dress, they even helped me celebrate with a glass of champagne. It was a great experience. They made the experience for my mother and I wonderful.

  • Pros: Great service, beautiful dresses, reasonable price

Bridal No-Go: Pompous, Disrespectful, Awkward

by jcpope712 at Citysearch

I joined my friend for a bridal appointment and it was a very uncomfortable experience, probably the most awkward I have felt at a business in my life. She wanted to go there after buying a ball gown with Yvonne earlier this year, so she had glowing reviews and expected the bridal experience to be similar. The way the bridal room is set up is neat, with dresses hanging from the ceiling so you can really see them. We walked around in there for quite some time before a employee helped us. As soon as the sales girls found this out that her mom lives out of town and wouldn't be at the appointment, they were in a rush to get her out of there, assuming that there was no money to be made. She was only allowed 4 gowns because they "don't really do try-on appointments, especially on Saturdays" (no one else was in there at the time and there were 2 girls helping us). When she came out in a dress, it was "absolutely gorgeous on you", "soooooo pretty", "beeeeeautiful"...none of them were as pretty or as nice as the ones she tried on earlier at another local shop appointment. She was scolded for touching the front of a silk dress because they sell the samples. There were repeated comments about "when your mama comes". The funny thing about that is, how do you assume that someone will be back if you disrespect them when they come in to look at what you have to offer? Every person in that shop thinks they are better than you, and those two girls definitely made it clear that my friend wasted their precious time. Thank goodness the appointment was rushed and over in 20 minutes because I just wanted to crawl under that Victorian couch and hide. I am also engaged, so they not only lost her business, but could have gained a customer in me as well if they treated us like we deserved to be there.

After reading here that her dresses are hacks, I believe it. They are masking poor customer service with a pompous attitude and masking cheap dresses with a "private label". They think that everything they have is amazing and that their poop doesn't stink (probably because they can't smell it over that awful perfume scent of the shop).

Terrible Service and Lack of Moral fiber

by ProHaul at Citysearch

Yvonne La Fleur and her staff are very condesending and have a lack of moral fiber when dealing with a problem.

They shipped my daughter a $1306 wedding dress by UPS and did not put a value to include insurance. Not doing this caused the package to be left outdoors. The wedding dress was damaged by dogs because it required no signature. Not to mention they charged a $30 shipping charge which actually cost $7.13 to ship. To put insurance would have cost an extra $10.31. We would have gladly paid. I would not have even thought they would ship something of that value without it. (I still have the dress and the torn up box.) As a business we ship UPS everyday and insure all expensive packages and they require a signature from the driver and the reciever.

When contacted they accused my daughter of lying and refused to even file a claim with UPS. UPS requires the shipper to make the claim. I was assured by UPS that they would have paid if it was insured. Yvonne La Fleur would not even grant us this courtesy. Gordan said he was not going to do anything. (This is when I called, by the way he called me a liar as well.)

Yvonne La Fleur and Gordan told me too bad, and to file with my homeowners insurance refusing any type of help. At this point its really not an issue of money. It's their lack of moral character. She may be respected among her elite, however I would suspect not so much among regular everyday people.

In closing, once they have your money, you are a second rate citizen not worthy of their attention.

I would recomend you find someone else that cares about your business. As a person who runs a small business I can assure you our customers are not treated like they are trailer trash once we have made the sale.

Bringing European stlye and elegance to the Big Easy

by Genibibiou at Citysearch

I was born and have lived in New Orleans all my life, and never have I found a store with a better selection or friendlier service. The inside of the boutique is beautifully covered with displayed merchandise- hanging silk slips, glittering jewelry, and racks and racks of clothes. All kinds of clothes, too! She's covered the gambit from lingerie to French trousers to stunning evening gowns. I personally enjoy her 'sportswear' (smart casual) department, where I know I can buy cute separates of high quality that will last me years.

Her bridal department is a MUST SEE. Secluded in a salon all its own, the opulent, sparkling gowns are hung from the high ceiling so the long trains can be seen. It's truly a bride's fantasy land.

Best of all is the attention to detail; every employee there is looking to help you find just what you need. It's really like shopping with your best friend! After chatting for a bit, they will find out what your style is- and pull out clothes that match you perfectly. I am always amazed at the hidden treasures they find in the clothing racks that I had previously passed.

Also, alterations are ALWAYS free- any kind of alterations, on anything you buy, be it a satin ball gown or a tweed suit or a brassier. You don't find that anywhere anymore.

The St. Charles Avenue streetcar is a block away so getting to Yvonne La Fleur's is easy even for tourists. It's also quite popular to have lunch at the nearby Camilla Grill before or after a wonderful few hours of girly shopping~!

Since my first visit, Yvonne and her fab daughters have helped me find everything from gorgeous cocktail dresses to sportswear that I haven't been able to find ANYWHERE else. They have gone above and beyond for me and have always provided the most delightful experience.

Great Selection, Superb Service!

by lew8137 at Citysearch

I recently went to Yvonne Lafleur's looking for a wedding dress. The consultant was very helpful and knowledgeable. I had gone to multiple places, from pricey upscale shops to the more affordable David's bridal. I was impressed with how much attention she had given to what I described as the type of dress I wanted. She made a point of pulling dresses within my price range as well. This is drastically different from the service I received at an upscale boutique in Baton Rouge. There, the women working were very snobby and not nearly as friendly as Yvonne and her consultants. When I told them my price range, the lady made a face and brought me straight to the sales rack. Just because the store is "upscale" and pricey, it doesn't make the dresses or the service any better. At David's bridal I had a consultant who was trying to work with three different brides at the same time, so she was unable to give her full attention to assisting me. That resulted in a LONG wait for assistance. At Yvonne Lafleur's my consultant only worked with me. She was also very welcoming to both my mother and mother-in-law. Needless to say, I bought my dress and veil there. It truly was a WONDERFUL experience!

Awful Subpar Brand B bridal boutique. Overpriced Rip-Off

by Belle2000 at Citysearch

Yvonne LaFleur in New Orleans is the worst bridal boutique shop i have ever dealt with in the country. Their dresses are not private label. They just buy SubPar Brand B dresses, rip out the labels, then put their own in, and then upcharge you.

Furthermore, if you are bigger than a Size 0 they will imply you are fat! And an uneducated 18 year old will sarcastically call you "darling" and care more about your credit card than you as a customer.

Brides - do you and your bridesmaids and bridal party a favor - boycott and stay away from Yvonne LaFleur! What a RIPOFF! If pay top dollar for bridesmaid dress - then you expect a Tier 1 dress with Tier 1 Customer Service. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL!

Not Yvonne's dresses, but still beautiful

by abasaur at Citysearch

The other reviewer is correct. All of Yvonne's wedding dresses come from Forever Yours Bridal or Jasmine, and she replaces the label with her own. She has a great selection, free alterations, and all dresses are under $2,000. However, all the dresses are considerably marked up from the original label's price. Buy with caution, but the buy might still be worth it if you're aware of the full situation.

Really good dress selection

by Runay at Citysearch

Today, I purchased a long white gown at Yvonne's. It was wedding style and considerably cheaper than David's Bridal and even Dillards.

When I walked in, there was this smell that just consumed me. It was old fashion perfume and there was SO much of it. After a while I got used to it, but I felt the need to run outside for fresh air for about 10 minutes beforehand.

The place wasn't well done. Generally shabby, but it was homey all at the same time. My attention was pretty much immediately taken away from that when I caught site of the dress selection they had.

There were tons of dresses! And not just dresses. They had purses, underwear (naughty and nice), gloves, jewelry and a bit more. I felt like a kid in a candy shop.

I was immediately helped and the woman was so ridiculously nice and helpful. She knew what I needed and she led me straight to the dress selection that fit my school requirements and price range. I had 5 dresses to try on.

I loved the very first one I tried on. The woman suggested I try a couple more on just in case, and she zipped me up and down throughout the entire thing, which was EXTREMELY helpful.

I ended up buying gloves also because surprisingly enough, they had them! I was even told some hairstyles that would go good with my dress.

The entire purchase was about 300 dollars. Not half bad I'd say.

This is not a place where you'll have one of a kind dresses. They seem to be stock dresses that have different price tags. So, if you're looking for that one of a kind dress, it isn't here. Maybe a three of a kind dress or something around there.

But I was really happy with the turnout. I would strongly suggest checking it out at the very least for ANY occasion that would require a dress.

  • Pros: attentive staff, amazing dress selection, nice dresses
  • Cons: the smell
