average at best

by strembicki

I had not eaten here in a few years, and was looking forward to my visit. I was more than a little dissapointed by the meal, they did not have any boiled shrimp or raw oysters that day and we ordered the giant seafood platter. There was lots of food (we ordered the platter for 2 and it was enough for 4), but the breading was a little heavy and the seafood itself not so flavorful. The gumbo was very good however as was the mac and cheese.

All in all, I think you get a better friend seafood meal at Deanie's.

We found the service fine the night we visited.

  • Pros: lots of food
  • Cons: many menu items not availible

Heaping portions

by mzpraz

This is one of the places my husband (boyfriend back then) brought me to when he learned I loved seafood! I was amazed at the amount of food you received. I'm glad to hear this wonderful place survived Katrina. I haven't gotten home yet but learned that Jack Dempsey was open and I'm planning a family outing for Friday July 27,2007. There's no place like home and JD's is one of the many reasons that New Orleans is a great place to call home!!!!!!!

Serving delicious stuffed flounder and 16-ounce steaks, this popular eatery is equally proud of its creamy, cheesey baked macaroni and cheese.

Back in Business

by gretnagirl

Jack Dempsey's Restaurant is back in business and as good as ever. They suffered wind damage but no water damage. The food was wonderful and very reasonsably priced at lunch. The onion rings appetizer is huge, easily feeding 4 people. The stuffed trout is delicious, a trout filet broiled atop a crabmeat dressing. The baked macaroni is still the best in the world. Creamy and very cheesy, with penne pasta. Thanks goodness that Katrina spared such a wonderful New Orleans institution.

  • Pros: good parking, reasonable $$, lunch-good deal
  • Cons: cash only

NEW ORLRANS SEAFOOD AT ITS BEST

by bayoucroc

If you are looking for classic fried, broiled New Orleans seafood, this is the place. The dishes are bountiful and you will always bring left overs home. Their seafood platter and gumbo are the best ever. However, for a real treat, get the stuffed trout. Oh, and their mac and cheese is really tops, no FFs for me as long as they have mac and cheese. Go there, try everything on the menu, its great. Forget about the neighborhood location, the food is worth the experience.

  • Pros: quality seafood, great servings, variety
  • Cons: shrimp not devained, cramped tables, no take out
