BAD

by sara226

Out of biscuits at 10 am - huh? Biscuits are easy!

The waitress was a numbskull and couldn't be bothered with us. She said our toast would be out soon. We got it from someone else 10 minutes after we finished our tasteless omelets.

  • Pros: the courtyard is cute
  • Cons: waitstaff/food

Fantastic Food

by gator1982

My girlfriends and I ate here for dinner and had an overall great experience. I ordered the parmesan encrusted snapper, and it was excellent. The entrees were a little expensive, but the food was so good, it seemed worth it. I'd go so far as to say it was probably the best meal I've had in all my five trips to the French Quarter throughout the past 10 years (and I've experienced a variety of French Quarter restaurants.) Can't wait to take my husband there next trip.

  • Pros: Fresh seafood, outdoor seating, casual atmosphere
  • Cons: somewhat slow service and a bit expensive

What happened to the this Restaurant????

by gkclapp

I visit NOLA 2X a year. I almost always eat breakfast or brunch here... however this past Labor Day Weekend (Sept 2009) when myself and two friends went there they managed to screw up all 3 orders, never rectified the situation and on top of all that added an 18% GRATUITY to the bill. So the service is horrible, the order was wrong and we are being forced to tip. NEVER AGAIN.

I would have rated this as a zero but I was forced to give it the lowest (a one star).

  • Pros: it USED to be good
  • Cons: They added an 18% gratuity for a table of THREE

The true New Orleans Experience!!!

by Copasetic

First I would like to address a few of the negative comments that I've seen in reference to the food here. For instance the one that said the bisque was too salty.........um no!!!! I live in New Orleans and I frequent this quaint little place often and the food is not over cooked or over seasoned. To say the least this is some of the best food in the French Quarter outside of fine dining. This is the way creole and cajun cuisine is prepared. If you want the same old bland food why didn't you just stay home and cook something out of a box??? My point is............If you "the traveler" are looking for good atmosphere, funny and lovable servers, and stellar food look no further than this little nook in the heart of the Quarter. Ignore the criticism and give in. You'll be happy you did!!!

  • Pros: The salads, soups, and staff!!!
  • Cons: Parking

The WORST of the French Quarter! Horrible!

by cmcnola

I have lived in New Orleans for over 10 years and this is absolutely the worst dining experience I have had in the city, possibly even in the world. The slow, rude, and hateful staff could not possibly care less about the customers or the quality of the food. If the awful service isn't enough of a reason to avoid this so called restaurant, the food certainly is. Horrid is too kind of a description for the food we were served. It was greasy and nothing seemed fresh. Even the coffee...ugh...I can't even begin to describe the foul taste of the brown water in the coffee cup! Of the many wonderful places to eat in my beautiful city, please do not dislike your self enough to go here. Please learn from my mistake. Spare your stomach and your day. Avoid this place at all costs!

  • Pros: It keeps bad waitresses out of good restaurants.
  • Cons: The only thing worse than the service is the food.

My Little Hole in the Wall

by ILoveTheServiceIndustry

A good overall experience. I frequent this place and don't know what the complaints are about. As someone who has worked around the city for a while and now in the quarter, this is one of the few places a local can go to get decent food at affordable prices. I like having the servers know my name and the bartender knowing my favorite drink. As to the last review, I know going in that this isn't some commercialized tourist experience. Sometimes the floor is dirty and the staff is "colorful", this is the French Quarter. I can go for good breakfast on my time (1:30 in the afternoon) or a good dinner and not spend my whole paycheck. Their chicken andouille gumbo is one of the greats in the quarter. For seafood gumbo, I would have to say the gumbo shop down the street is a little better, but the price difference more than makes up for it though. I love this place.

  • Pros: Great food and prices
  • Cons: French Quarter Parking

SOMETHING TERRIBLY WRONG HERE!

by WORKININNAWLINS

I am working in New Orleans and sampling different restaurants. We had eaten breakfast here

and it was good. Service great - staff warm and friendly.

BUT, just got dinner to go. OMG, the cook was yelling to the bartender to shut up. The floor

was littered, and I mean littered. It looked like they didn't sweep or pick up a thing all

day long. Crumbs, napkins, whatever, on the floor. I told the bartender as I waited and

he said, "I been trying to get my morning crew on that." It was 8pm !

Anyway, I take my red beans and rice home. It is very good. BUT, I also try their "award winning

crab bisque." OMG - it tasted like someone had poured an entire salt shaker into the soup.

I crave salt but this soup had to have been sabotaged by someone.

I am just about to call them to tell them I will come back tomorrow to get my money back for

the soup.

  • Pros: I am at a loss.
  • Cons: Dirty, food bad

Great food. One bad waitress.

by BelleResa

We ate here for "brunch" and the food was great. I believe we must have had the same waitress as another reviewer. her name is Billie Jean. Boy--she was terrible. The food order was taken quickly enough but, when the order arrived it was wrong. There were four of us and only one had the correct order. When we tried to get the correct food she acted like we were trying to change our orders. Well, needless to say the correct items never found our way to the table. Toast was never brought. Some of us got potatoes and not the grits we ordered--and vice versa. She never came back to the table and never offered any refills. Time for the check and sure enough another waitress had to find ole Billie Jean. She brought back credit card receipts and then stood over our shoulders while we wrote the tip amount in---sure was intimidating. So I say go eat there the food we received, even though wrong, was delicious. Just ask NOT to be seated in Billie Jean's section.

  • Pros: great food
  • Cons: Billie Jean sheds bad light on serive

Breakfast or Brunch, the Coffee Pot's the place

by robertmcbrayer

Found over 14 years ago, and recommended it to my friends who travelled to New Orleans (I would sincererly doubt it would have lasted this long if the quality of food/service described by the prior reviewer were anything other than an aberration). A perfect little restaurant halfway between Bourbon and Jackson Square, it's off the beaten path allowing prices to decrease while the quality of your meal increases. Well-rounded menu choices with food delivered very quickly and very hot. And that 's critical in New Orleans over a weekend.

This restauant would also be responsible for helping to overcome my strong dislike of tomato juice, teaching me the value of an well manufactured Bloody Mary as a cure to the Mardis Gras hangover over 12 years ago.

Worst service EVER!!!, worst food EVER!!!

by dpizzari

I've eaten at hundreds (maybe thousands) of restaurants in the US and this one takes the cake for poor service. We went there for breakfast - big mistake. After being told that the wait for a table inside would be 5 minutes, we stood in the cold for 20 minutes looking at the menu.

While my friend is a hot-food-breakfast fan, I prefer regular old cereal, toast and bacon. Since cereal was listed on the menu, I asked our waitress what cereal they had. With a look of disdain, she informed me curtly, "None." As I double-checked the menu to determine that I wasn't making a mistake, she added, "It's on the menu, but we don't have any." She took my friend's order and started to walk away. I told her that I'd like to start with orange juice, at which point she snatched away my menu. Surprised, I asked her for my menu back so I could choose something else. She walked off.

The waitress placed my friend's order and delivered her meal to the table and walked away without taking my order. My friend called her back and told her that I'd like to place an order which my friend then had to call out to her as she kept walking away from our table. So by the time my greasy ham and cheese po boy (with soggy mayonaise, tomato and lettuce) arrived, my friend had long since finished her meal.

We were never asked, "Is everything OK?" or "Can I get you anything else?" There were no coffee refills and my friend's toast never arrived. In fact we never saw our waitress again during the meal. And when I was done with my meal, two other waitresses had to hunt our waitress down to get the bill. We were waiting with coats on and bags in hand by the time she finally arrived with the bill. Do you think she was surprised to receive an 8c tip?

Do yourself a favour - go somewhere else to spend your hard earned cash!

  • Pros: Nothing
  • Cons: Rude wait staff, slow service, overpriced, greasy food
