Best Cheeseburgers in this solar system!!
by carnivalrex
In short, this place has THE best cheeseburger I've ever had in my life.
What to order: Cheeseburger, medium (or medium rare). Baked Potato with everything (inc. mushrooms).
While you wait, have a monsoon or two. Don't expect a quiet dinner - this is the place to go when you're feeling raucous!
- Pros: Cheeseburger, Monsoons
- Cons: Wait is never less than 45 mins, neighborhood is sketchy
Unprofessional
by wordupcharlie
Went to get a table ten minutes before Last Call, stood there for ten minutes until the name-taker, who had been nowhere to be found, stopped drinking and flirting with girls at the bar came over to our party and told us we couldn't be seated because it was past Last Call. Wasn't even nice about it. Security guard in the vicinity was really mean and actually put me on the verge of tears. Bartenders weren't any better. ONE nice waitress. Honestly, the overpriced burgers aren't worth the attitude you get from the people working there. Go to Angeli on Decatur or Camellia Grill for better service, a better burger, and people who are actually nice. And a quick add-on, when I called to talk to some sort of manager about this, I was told that Port of Call didn't need our business anyway. They must not "need the business" bad enough to warrant professional, polite behavior. Amazing.
Best Steaks and Burgers in the Quarter
by FilM
We last ate at Port of Call on August 1, 2008. We ordered a Filet Mignon to split. It came with a nice salad with Italian Dressing, two fresh buns, a potato with just butter ( as we requested) and a filet, perfectly done as we ask - medium rare.
We have been coming here for the past two years, and always sit at the bar. Its an eclectic bar for sure, but don't let ancient mariner memorabilia, and dark environs scare you. The place is a gem. The staff have been there for years, and are as much of a reason to go as any. These people treat us like family after being here just a few times. The burgers are great, and the potatoes can be anything you want, as they have more ingredients than you can imagine.
We only order the same drinks, so I cant comment on the Monsoons, etc.. But the traffic for them is great. The clientele are locals and tourists - no riff raff. With the turnover nightly, they run a clean ship.
We came from San Francisco, and spend a good amount of time here. These are the best burgers we have ever had, and the best steaks for both size and price.
If you want to enjoy it for the first time, get there when they open, and choose a spot to enjoy both the food, and the other people enjoying the food. It can be quite busy at times, but keep in mind that the food and drink are worth waiting for!
- Pros: Food, Staff, Price
- Cons: furniture, they dont always open on time
Wonderful

This place is a must everytime we are in the city. There is a terrible wait that is well worth it! The burgers will leave you craving more for weeks and the Monsoon, well all I can say is you only need one and it is delish!
- Pros: Great Food
- Cons: Looooong wait and no benches to rest your weary feet
tasty burgers and baked potato
by jpa225
Good place for a date. May have to wait 15-20 minutes or pull up to the bar. Burgers have gotten smaller but they still are filling alongside salad or potato, but don't look for french fries. Enough juice w/ burgers to compensate for greasy fries.
- Pros: Good tasty food. Ambiance.
- Cons: No parking. Sometimes smokey
With a menu this small it had better be good

Port of Call has what I would consider to be the best burgers anywhere. The menu has only about 8 items, but they stick to what they know best--burgers and steaks. I always make a point to stop by at least once when I am in N.O. The interior is cramped and the wait can be long, but there is always a great cross-section of people to watch. Even the baked potatoes are great...I know they are hard to mess up, but Port of Call's just seem better.
- Pros: amazing burgers
- Cons: ambience, wait time
UNSANITARY---AVOID
by ojuiceo
I attempted to eat here 2 months ago and when my plate was placed in front of me a Cucaracha crawled out of my salad onto the table. I know we have our fair share of creepy crawlers down here, but c'mon I don't think anyone wants foreign animals in their food. The waitress didn't seem phased at all. The conditions are unsanitary and the long wait is not worth it. I've been here twice before, but never again. The only thing worth mentioning here are the drinks- monsoon, goombay, huma huma, but I suggest you get a burger someplace else.
- Pros: Drinks, Prices
- Cons: Unsanitary

Great Big Juicy Burgers

Even if you have to wait outside in the rain, do it. The burger's worth it. They have a whole menu, but I find it hard to believe anyone ever gets anything but hamburgers.
The best of the best

There's nothing else I can say that hasn't already been said here. I can just testify that it is the best burger you will ever eat! Period. Wash it down with a Monsoon and you will have had the Port of Call experience. People tell me that the pizzas and steaks are absolutely fabulous and I've seen them and they look great, but I go for the burger!
