Great, friendly, and caring vet. Affordable rates. Dr. Mike operates the place top to bottom, since the storm. So, if you call, he might not be available to answer. We walked in with our cat and he was able to see us in ~15 min.

Pros: fast, affordable, service

Cons: occasionally hard to reach by phone

i have now relocated to houston and the thing i miss most is dr. mike's animal house. my cocker spaniel loved him more than any vet we have ever gone to, and if you have a cocker your know that you go often. he charges very reasonable rates unlike others and my dog was cured with one visit rather than being strung along.

Pros: great atmosphere, clean

Cons: finding parking on rampart

My sister was Lark Bennett. My sister was honored by the SPCA and the city of New Orleans after her death for her humane acts performed on behalf of animals and those in need. She many times found homes for the SPCA dogs or groomed them so they could find homes. DR. MIKE worked with my sister performing every service he could to help sometimes for free or at little cost when compared to the vet prices which are through the roof. I know you are grieving sir, but you are wrong about this DR Mike. He is a devoted lover of animals. I am sorrry for your loss.

Pros: this doctor is above and beyond duty in his service to animals. his prices are very low.

Cons: none.

First I must respond to the other review - YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!!! Nietzsche was only 54 lbs....he was not unruly...He had fear aggression and dr. mike is a vet....nietzsche had been boarded with him 8 other times without any difficulties....who should i have trusted with my dog? he had enough medication to euthanize my dog, he could have given him a tranquilizer if there was a problem and taken him with him...there was no reason for him to euthanize my dog and I resent your comments...you have no idea about my dog's personality and you have no idea how dr. mike treated me after the entire situation....he was open for business less than 1 week after killing my dog!....I hope that he never does to you what i had to go through, then maybe you would respect my feelings and my dog's life a little better...to tell me that my dog was put to sleep b/c he was too big to evacuate with is disgusting and a cop out I had boarded my dog prior to Hurricane Katrina (not for the hurricane) and was supposed to return to the city on 8/27 - the hurricane first landed where i was in florida and my flight was cancelled. I tried driving back, but the roads were closed....dr mike assured me that everything would be okay, that my dog was on the second floor and that the building was secure....the next call i get from him is to tell me that he evacuated, but put my dog to sleep because he was too big to take with him. .. he was only a 50 lb dog. Dr. Mike is a murderer!!!! Do not trust him with your dogs. I hate myself for ever leaving my precious dog with him and will never forgive him. He was rude and disrespectful to me after the whole situation and was never apologetic. The vet board agreed with me and said that he unlawfully put my dog to sleep without permission and no medical reason for it. All I ever wanted from Dr. Mike was an apology for killing my baby and he could not care less.....do not give him a chance to do it again.

Pros: my dog liked him

Cons: he murdered my dog

As a client of Dr Mike's Animal House, I wish to respond to the review claiming Dr Mike to be a murderer. He is not nor ever could be a murderer. The person writing the review was not even in the city when Katrina stormed upon the city. I stayed and did not leave untill forced out due to civil unrest. Dr Mike stayed and cared for the animals in his care during, after, and beyound. He left the city four days after the storm with pets that were under his care. The one animal that Dr. Mike left in his clinic was a dog of 65lbs and and very unruly. Dr. Mike had to make a choice of taking this unruly animal or other people in his neiberhood who had no other way out. His deleima also was wether to leave this unruly animal behind with enough food and water to survive untill animal rescue arrived. Animal rescue did not show up at his clinic untill four weeks later. Putting the dog to sleep was the most humane thing. Dr Mike could of done. The dog would of starved to death which is certainly less humane. I trust my animals any day with Dr Mike than with anyone else. BTW, I was there.

Pros: thumbs up, convienent

Dr. Mike needlessly murdered two dogs (maybe more - still being investigated) that were in his care when he evacuated for Katrina, after being told by the owners that he DID NOT have their permission to do this. They begged and pleaded with him not to murder their dogs. As a Vet he had/has an ethical and moral obligation to his "patients." He could have taken the dogs to any one of many emergency shelters set after Katrina, including SAF on Magazine St. These two beloved dogs were family members and their owners are devestated. Vets from all over North America WENT TO New Orleans immediatly after Katrina to help with rescue and provide care for the animals that had to be left behind, yet Dr. Mike left town and destroyed animals in his care. I can't believe this murderer still has a license to practice vet medicine in Louisiana or anywhere.
