Hasn't Missed Yet

Except for one lame college jam band, every act I've seen at Tipitina's has been well worth the cover. Great local bands, good atmosphere, and proximity to other cool hangouts make Tipitina's a winner.
The city's storied home for local music legends and touring favorites.

The Scene
A bust of late R&B piano great Professor Longhair, the club's patron saint, greets visitors just inside the door to Tipitina's; his likeness also hangs over the stage, casting an aura of respectability over the proceedings. Once the preeminent music venue in the city, Tip's (as it's known to locals) luster has faded somewhat with the success of younger clubs. The club's sense of history is undeniable, however, and its owners have wisely decided to play to that strength, unveiling a New Orleans Music Walk of Fame commemorating past and present pillars of the local jazz-R&B scene.
The Draw
This unpretentious space splits its fare between big-ticket artists like George Clinton and local rising stars like the Soul Rebels Brass Band. Rock, country, Cajun, reggae--it all gets played here.
TIPS ROCKS!!!

A New Orleans institution!!! The House Of Fess. They've all played here. From members of the Stones, U2, REM, Widespread Panic, to local intitutions like the Nevilles, Funky Meters. Come to pass a good time!!!

One of the greatest places on Earth. Great music and great bartenders. Don't forget to rub the head.
WHERE MUSIC HAPPENS IN NEW ORLEANS

There are only about a million or so great venues for music in the city, but Tipitina's always has it going on.
The place!!

Saw a show last Saturday. The door staff and the bartenders were very friendly. A must go for people who LISTEN to music.
Live Music heaven

Uptown, Downtown (on Decatur) and all around during certain Jazz Fests, the original and still the best is the uptown location on the corner of Tchoupitoulas and Napoleon. If you dont want to pay the cover, you can hang out on the median and smoke with the poor college students. Anything goes inside. A landmark musical venue with a statue of Professor Longhair. Nearby Superstore (for drinks if waiting outside) makes life even easier in the Big Easy.
- Pros: Music Acts, Authentic experience
Out of the way, but worth the trip
by peterbehle_citysearch
The music is great here, but this is also a great spot to hang out. The bartenders are friendly and the Abita is always flowing. This is off the beaten track and a bit hard for tourists to track down -- but that's part of the fun.
- Pros: Top-not music
- Cons: Out of the way
