College hangout where everybody knows your name.

The Scene
The spirit here is relaxed, with lava lamps, dragon pictures and only one LSU pennant. Familiar crowds play pool, darts or the Golden Tee machine, while cliques chat around the bar and at tables under the light of beer advertisements.
The Draw
Tight-knit groups from Loyola and Tulane gather here for much the same reason their collegiate forebears hung out at several other incarnations of Tuck's in the '60s, '70s and late '80s: fraternity events and low-key nights. Blue-jeaned undergrads and black-clad sorority girls mingle to MTV music and drink-standard potables. Friar Tuck's holds a place in many hearts thanks to nearly three decades in town. Old regulars still stop in to reminisce, and cypress walls from the late Carrollton site give it an old feel.
Hey baby what's up

Tucks is a place for all ages (over 18). It is a very riviting place to go and let loose with great friends and new aqcuantances. The bartenders are very amicable and approachable; they help you out and lend a helping hand. If in the Loyola area, one should definitly go visit this place.
- Pros: 93% of bartenders, drunk girls
- Cons: tulane frat boys, very dumb drunk guys
Loyola's bar

This is a Loyola student staple. Saturday is ladies' night and the place is packed. It is the most comfortable bar in Uptown but isn't in the greatest of neighborhoods. The crowd is a good one and everybody is approachable. On weekends the wait at the bar can be incredibly long. They're known for college girls dancing on the bar and pouring shots. I like it because it's consistent. Good place

I have been going to friar tucks since it was on carrollton ave. I have had nothing but good times since going there. I always started sober there, but by the end of the night I was drunk, illicit, and frequently leaving with some girl.
- Pros: inexpensive
- Cons: parking

The New Old Tucks
by jblitch3
Friar Tuck's was a true college bar in the '60's. Once located on Claiborne just behind Tulane and Loyola, this bar was built for and by college students. Over the years it lost that image. But today, under new management, it strives to reaquire that image. Management strives to bring in finest clientele. And, its grill ranks among the best in the city. Forget bar food. Friar Tucks serves exemplary meals including the best grilled chicken salad in the city and weekly favorites like red beans and rice, smothered pork chops and fried catfish.
