Well worth the 10 minute taxi ride from the quarter. Great potatoes, Huevos Rancheros, and migas(scrambled eggs with chilies, tortilllas, and cilantro), to die for. Quick, friendly service, and allthough we had to wait in line to get in, it moved very fast. Enjoy.

Pros: Great food

There is a reason this place is so popular - it's great. My grilled cheese was to die for. Coffee is so-so, but what do you expect from a diner? Takes a while to get in on the weekends but service is pretty fast. Very no-fuss. Server gives you the ticket when the food comes, and you pay at the register when you are done. If you're by yourself or with one other person, you can usually get a spot at the bar quickly. They have a bunch of books and magazines if you're by yourself.

Pros: quick service, good prices

Cons: street parking (metered on weekdays), bad coffee

onions in the salsa for the huevos rancheros -- actually, I could taste almost all of the ingredients. What impressed me about this place was how fresh and wholesome the ingredients tasted. Even for a limited menu such as the one I had to choose from in January 2006, I was mightily impressed with the dishes. Yes, it is a bit greasy, but you can pick carefully and side step some of the heavier options.

The first time that I ate at the Bluebird the corned beef hash was homemade and delicious. The service was excellent. I went back a month later. The biscuit was dried out and the hashbrowns were charred black in places. I brought my parents there for brunch a week ago and the pancakes were rubbery and the grits were lumpy and barely warm. The eggs were good, but since it is pretty hard to screw them up, Bluebird gets no brownie points. The only thing that was worse than the food was the service. I had to go up to the counter to get my own butter. Our waiter put the food down and didn't come back until we were done eating.

Pros: location, fresh orange juice

Cons: , bad food

This was my third visit - 1st in about a year, and man, something happened. The food was SUPER bland. I had huevos rancheros, and had to use 4x as much salt as usual just to get a taste out of it (my companion agreed about his omelet and home fires too). And I have always had good service, but our waitress yesterday sat us, gave us coffee, and took our order. AND WE NEVER SAW HER AGAIN. She wouldn't even look at our table when she walked by. Other servers brought us our food and coffee warmup. She seemed attentive to the tables nearer to the kitchen. Maybe we were just too far away for her? Worst service in years.

Pros: comfortable, huge portions, inexpensive

Cons: outside waiting, spotty service, bland

This was a huge disappointment. Highly overrated, the food would have been a dissappointment at any greasy spoon, certainly not worth a special visit.

Pros: ambience

Cons: unimpressive food

I have had a better breakfast on a Navy Ship. The meat actually looked and tasted like the type you would find on a Navy Vessel. My wife and I both had a omelet, hash browns, and a side of sausage. The hash browns were like dinner type potatoes not for breakfast. The service left alot to be desired, it was like pulling teeth to get anything brought to the table. I would not reccommend this restaurant.

Cons: small, parking

I recently ate at the Bluebird on a trip west. I have to say I was suprised at the mixed reviews it received. I would like to know where the people who graded this place a 5 eat at. It would certainly survive in New Jersey, the home of the diner. It's the kind of place where if you go more than twice the staff starts calling you by name. Although I didn't think the portions were "Flintstone-like", unless you are Pebbles Flintstone, the food was good, the service was good, the atmosphere was good and the price was good. For you dieters, my daughter said they make a wicked fruit cup. Not Emeril's or the Commander's Palace, but a good place to eat without breaking the bank. Go around 10 or 11 and you won't have the wait that most of the other reviewers mentioned.

Pros: Good food, friendly place, cheap

Cons: none

I love the Bluebird. Nothing helps a hangover like two eggs over hard, wheat toast, and some super greasy home fries. The service is lightning speed and always friendly. The coffee is hot, good, and continually refilled. I think the Bluebird might just be what heaven is like- except for the line out front.

Pros: very fast, cheap, tasty

Cons: long line, they allow smoking

This place rules!!!!! You should definitely stand in this line as long as you have to. Suzie is the hottest waitress in the world. Omelets are great, eggs are great, especially the egg sandwich w/ ham & cheese.

Pros: Food, Food, Food

A tempting low-priced menu combining innovative breakfast and lunch dishes with Flintstone-like portions.  See the full editorial review.
