Does not disappoint

by Nekishaw

Amazing barbecued shrimp, oysters and shrimp pasta. I have never ordered anything I didn't like at this restaurant. It is a Louisiana legend for good reason. The servers are friendly, and the food is authentic Louisiana cuisine.

  • Pros: Great food, great service

Famous but the food's not that great.

by TiaMaria24

I should have ordered the famous barbecue shrimp, so I won't be too hard on Pascal Manale.

But the fish and pasta I ordered were terribly bland.

  • Pros: Cool atmosphere
  • Cons: Expensive - food not flavorful

don't waste your time

by jennred

I live in New Orleans and I won't waste my time at this restaurant. There is nothing special about the food and the owners blatent disregard for the guest is the only thing that sets them apart. It's New Orleans - there's no shortage of places to get oysters and BBQ shrimp (think Mr. B's) and there's also no shortage of great restaurants that know how to treat their customers. The service is truly horrible and the owners and managers could care less. Mark this off your list.

  • Pros: bartenders and Thomas the oyster shucker
  • Cons: service and owners

It's all about the oysters, baby!

by andyaction

Louisiana oysters are the name of the game, and the man you want to see is Thomas. Bob and Mark, the owners, know where to get the best, tastiest, freshest oysters around and Thomas serves them up with giant slice of larger-than-life, southern hospitality at it's finest. He's got the best stories and he takes care of you, so remember to take care of him. Weather you like 'em small or big he'll hook you up. They also grill these tasty shelled morsels a-la bienville or rockafella'. Not to mention the barbecued shrimp...

  • Pros: safe, guarded parking, great ambiance

Historic birthplace of classic barbecue shrimp serves well-worn Italian steakhouse staples in a nostalgic, neighborhood-joint setting.

by Contributor

The Scene
From decor to menu, Pascal's nostalgically trades on its past. Steady tourist traffic and neighborhood regulars keep the aging dining rooms (formal, casual and private) bustling. For old-schoolers, the restaurant's worn vibe proves comforting; to newcomers, it feels like a borrowed family tradition.

The Food
Universally considered the birthplace of New Orleans barbecue shrimp, Pascal's still delivers a serviceable version of this butter-rich sauteed (not smoked) dish. About a dozen super-jumbo barbecue shrimp arrive in a plain white bowl and float in an inch of butter spiked with garlic and black pepper. The rest of the Italian steakhouse menu is heavy on fried and cheesy classics. A promising oyster, shrimp and crab "pan roast" arrives light on the seafood and heavy on creamy bread-crumb binder. Tender scallops of veal parmigiana are smothered under a thick layer of rubbery mozzarella. Rich, tangy Key lime pie is the sweet list standout.

FUN FUN FUN!!!!

by Reeseperry

This is absoultly my favorite restaurant in N.O. The only problem I have is that I get full before I can eat all that I want to eat. We always start with raw oysters from the oyster bar, which is a blast!!! Then if the place is really packed, we order another drink and stand around to visit with friends. We all have our favorites. Mine is to start out with Escargo, then the Greek Salad (which I share with my husband), then the best in the world Barbque Shrimp!!!! If you are not just about to POP, try the pecan pie for desert. I have told many of my friends about this restaurant and now they also go there whenever they are in town.

LOVE IT OR HATE IT...

by mtnhomes

On our first trip to this restaurant we had a 2 year old in tow, and they were obviously not anxious to seat us, and we eventually left. I was stilll curious because it is an intriguing place. So against my firm principals on not rewarding poor service, I have returned twice on subsequent visits, and quite enjoyed it. No - the "barbequed" shrimp are not smothered in BBQ sauce, and the "heads on" presentation might be intimidating and possibly unappetizing to someone who did not realize that shrimp actually have heads (and eyes, and long long whiskers). This place is not a culinary superstar, but is a completely worthwhile and enjoyable experience.
