Disappointing

by milouchat at Citysearch

The Crab Cobb Salad was awful. All the ingredients that go into a Cobb Salad were put in a food processor then pressed into a mold, unmolded and served with a sauce. About two teaspoons of lump crab meat. were sprinkled on top. It was like eating grass clippings.

  • Pros: Nice atmosphere
  • Cons: Crab Cobb Salad

Nice atmosphere, the food was good. Sitting outside in the courtyard was nice as it was not to hot outside. Lunch menu was a little pricey.

  • Pros: great food

Very POOR!

Brunch at Martinique Bistro was one of the most disappointing meals that I have experienced in New Orleans. To put it mildly, service was awful and the food was not much of an improvement. To start, I had the tomato soup. It was very salty and since my server never brought us water, I was dying of thirst. For my main course, I ordered the Tuna salad, which was very dry and tasted like liquid smoke. I hope things improve, but I will never be returning to find out.

  • Pros: nice outside seating.
  • Cons: we were seated next to propane tanks

Bad Service

by oeil21 at Citysearch

We were seated in the courtyard late this summer and were instantly swarmed with mosquitoes as soon as we sat down. Our waitress declared she was allergic to the coils that were keeping other guests bite free - finally I had to walk over to another table and pick one up myself. I guess maybe it went straight to her head because we finally had our bread brought to us by another waiter after we had finished our entrees. And why couldn't we just move inside? The air conditioner must have been set on about 55. Food was fine but not the best ever. I didn't find it seemed like a french bistro at all except for the meat dominated menu.

  • Pros: Eat here
  • Cons: And be eated alive

Hidden Uptown gem offers worldly French fare and a classic Parisian bistro setting, complete with verdant patio.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
This Magazine Street cottage might be the most unassuming, unsung bistro in the city. The tiny indoor space creates an intimate French cafe vibe, while the spacious patio offers a lush, hidden garden feel. This romantic neighborhood gem is a relaxing haunt for Uptown executives and the "Daddy's buying" university crowd.

The Food
While the ambience might be classic French, the menu pulls influences from world cuisines--especially fruit and savory combinations--without undue flourish or flash. A savory French toast starter combines shreds of hearty lamb confit and mushroom with a slightly sugary herbed blueberry reduction, to wonderful effect. A simple sauté of curried Gulf shrimp with dried mango continues the well-executed sweet/spicy theme. The sauteed pork medallions--accented with plums, shiitake and walnuts, then drizzled with a fragrant Armagnac sauce--are a masterful homage to the flavors of southwestern France. Finish with an exceptional molten chocolate cake.
