It may seem like a hollow compliment, but Sav-A-Center is great compromise for those of us who can't afford shopping at Whole Foods. The Tchoupitoulas store is clean and generally well maintained, and the salad bar and deli foods are actually pretty good. They have a good produce section, and they stay well stocked on most items, except their big sale items. Get there early or miss out on most deals. They also have a good, reasonably priced vegetarian and organic foods section. Be sure to check dates on refrigerated items in this section however; twice I've brought home spoiled edamame.
