Standard lodgings in a convenient but questionable neighborhood.

The Scene
This might be the most economical hotel within walking distance of the French Quarter, Harrah's Casino and the Superdome. It is also convenient to the State Palace Theater and the Saenger Theater--New Orleans' primary music and theater venues. There is, however, a trade-off: The immediate neighborhood is deserted after dark and isn't guaranteed safe if you're not in a large group.

The Details
On-site parking (at a price) makes safety a lesser concern for guests with cars. A decent restaurant, bar, outdoor pool, laundry facilities and meeting rooms round out the amenity list. The 78 rooms span two floors and have been recently renovated. Though still basic, they contain telephones and televisions with cable, HBO and ESPN. With several hospitals and Tulane University's School of Public Health dominating the surrounding blocks, the hotel is especially attractive to family members of medical students and patients.
