My Wife's Mouth was Burned by a Lump of Cayenne
by Ed dream at Citysearch
I came from out of town expecting some good seafood at a reasonable price. My wife ordered the Shrimp Po Boy and nearly jumped out of her seat when she began spitting said it felt like her mouth caught on fire. She nearly threw up at the table. We discovered a ball of thick undisolved red Cayenne Pepper. It burned her tougue so badly, it grew extremely red with a tiny cut. She later had a rash in her mouth.
The wait person did bring milk which helped her some. I asked for the manager on duty and after a while a lady whose name I cannot remember showed up and said that sometimes this happens because the batter is not thoroughly mixed and it sometimes has Cayenne balls. Her tone was matter of fact and uncaring. When I reminded her that a restaurant's reputation is important, she agreed to take $3.00 off the bill and marched off.
Any quality restaurent would have comped the sandwich, if not the meal, expressed real concern and apologized. Instead we all felt like we had done something wrong in complaining.
My first and last time there was a very bad experience.
Pick this place instead of Bubba Gumps

The seafood here actually tastes fresh and like it came from the sea. It’s well seasoned, well cooked and with quality ingredients. A step above the rest.
Great seafood in Metairie
by puterbeast at Citysearch
My girlfriend,Debra, and I were in town for a wedding.I was told if I wanted seafood that Deanies was the place. We went downtown first, big mistake, but we finally found the one in Metairie. There was a line but we were glad.Meant there was something people wanted.WE were seated in about 20 to 30 minutes but that was good for the ammount of people waiting. We got to order,I had the 1/2 seafood plate and Debra had a schrimp po-boy.We were both surprized to the ammount of food on our plates.Debra had ordered a cup of gumbo and I didn't.After she got her's I couldnt take the aroma any more,I had to have a taste and it was the best gumbo I ever had.I ordered me a bowl but wish I could have ate it from the pot it was in.I know that Deanies is high on our list of restaurants and we would make a trip from Mobile just to eat seafood there.I have been there only once and know of nothing bad to say about the place.I do know if your looking for good food give Deanie's a try.Glad we did.We will be going back many more times.Glad Debra has relatives all over that area.Thank you for a wonderful meal...Al and Debra
Better than the Rest!

My husband and I have been eating at Deanies since they opened the restaurant side...they also have fabulous fresh seafood in the market next door. We get the seafood platter and end up taking food home...I don't think any three lumberjacks could consume that much food in one sitting, especially when it is accompanied by the delicously cold draft beer! The service is comfortable and neighborly, the prices are extremely reasonable, the ambience is DEFINITELY N'Awlins, and the waiting lines move quickly! Best place for introducing friends to REAL Louisiana hospitality and food.
- Pros: free zesty boiled red potato appetizers
- Cons: can't think of ANY
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
by LMFNOLA at Citysearch
I ordered pinot grigio, got chardonnay... server just tried to pass it off as what I had ordered. Raw oysters were not freshly shucked, they were dried out, warm, and had a green color to them. Boiled crawfish were overcooked and seemed as if they were sitting in dirty luke warm water for hours. BBQ shrimp were undercooked and the server forgot to put our order in... again, no apology or explanation. The server was extremely rude and would start walking away as you were speaking (several times). Everyone in my party has worked in the service industry for many years. We were shocked and disappointed. I live in NOLA and will not be returning. I actually feel sick this morning just thinking of this meal and experience. Really wish I would have just got something fried, but, being that they own a seafood market next door to the restaurant, you would assume the seafood would be fresh. However, we all know what happens when we assume...
Want It, Need It, Gotta Have It! Incredible

Got there at 5:00; wait was 10 minutes. SERVER: Herb - the best! Ask for him when you go; you won't be sorry! APPETIZERS: Fried Artichoke Hearts -- with shaved parmesan and homemade ranch dressing for dipping - dressing so fresh and different, went to their market next door and they went to the kitchen, got a pint of it for me - THAT almost NEVER HAPPENS! All PERFECT! Fried Calamari - best we've ever had; seasoned and fried to perfection - even if you don't like calamari, you gotta have it! Husband had the 1/2 seafood platter - a flyer at the store showed a picture of the 1/2 seafood platter labeled "The Highest Point in Louisiana" and that's an understatement! ENORMOUS and INCREDIBLE! I had the stuffed flounder - stuffed with crab dressing - perfectly sweet and spicy - FLAWLESS! Even the house salad and baked potato were more than a cut above in freshness and flavor! We've lived in New Orleans all of our lives, eaten seafood at more places that we can count and DEANIE'S is by far the best seafood (fried or boiled) we've ever experienced. Ate until we couldn't breathe anymore and walked out with THREE (3) packed to go containers! Left at 6:30 and the lobby was jam packed; I guess they knew about the incredible food there too! Convinced yet? I thought so! BTW, I'm not responsible for making you crave what I just described; trust me, you can't get there fast enough!
- Pros: Best Fried Seafood in Town
- Cons: None
horrible

Don't know what I was doing getting a hamburger at Deanie's anyway, however, it came out ice cold. Ordered a salad instead, by the time I finished the salad, the server returned with a new burger (which I DID NOT ask for.) She said the manager wouldn't take the burger off the ticket. I had only taken 2 bites of the ice cold burger before requesting something in lieu of it, and the manager insisted on trying to get me to pay for it. After biting into an ice cold piece of beef, the last thing I wanted was more beef. Service was fine...manager was a complete douche...I guess I was the wrong color to gets me a refunds. I told the manager he could eat the second burger.
Slow service. Must of taken 3 hours to eat for 3.

I was visiting my old home town New Orleans from Los Angeles and of course you have to have New Orleans seafood. I have been to Deanies a few times and it was wonderful, delicious. But this time it was just horrible. We had a table of 3 and it must of taken us 3 hours to eat. They must of been understaffed or something. I ordered the crabmeat remoulade which is normally delicious with a nice amount of crabmeat but this time the amound of crabmeat was so puny. I mean really "wheres the meat"? I also ordered the bbq shrimp which is normally so damn delicious but this time something was seriously lacking. It had a burnt left on stove too long taste. Disappointing.
My oysters were about 1.5 hours late and the waitress also told me that they left them in the refrigerator for me to keep them cooled because she forgot to retrieve them. Oh how lovely dried up raw oysters.
The worst of the experience was the waiting, It took forever for the food. I mean we must of sat for like 45minutes waiting for our food after our appetizers. By the time our food arrived we were not hungry anymore and just got to go boxes.
Than the $120 bill came.
Great Seafood and Fun Atmosphere

My friends and I have eaten at Deanie''s on Lake Ave. for years, and several times this year. Seafood is always plentiful and very good! Love the spicy new potatoes served as an appetizer.
Sometimes when the restaurant is packed it becomes a little noisy and the service can be a little slow ...... just sit back, enjoy, joke with your server and be patient....good food in coming!
When driving in for a visit Deanie's is always our first stop....can't wait to get back!! See ya there ......
- Pros: Great food, fun crowds, friendly service.....very good value
- Cons: Sometimes a little noisy and service can bog down when corwded
everything tastes the same

I believe in giving second chances, but I really wish we did not, as this second chance was so not worth $130.00 !!! The first time we visited this restaurant, the food was so greasy that I had an upset tummy before we even left the place! This time I ordered something different from what the others in our party were eating (they ordered one of the platters), and still I was very disappointed! The stuffed shrimp (supposedly stuffed with crabmeat) was horrible! Not only was I forced to order the more expensive dinner portion (we missed "lunch time" by half hour or so and I eat very little), but the taste was overwhelmed by the spices (and I do use hot sauce regularly), I could taste nothing but the spice! My kids hated the taste of the food on the platter, as it tasted just like my stuffed shrimp! We all like spicy food, but this was way too much! Also, the potatoes brought out are awful, the patrons should be given a choice of rolls instead! I would not be so upset if we did not spend do much, but if I am paying over $100.00, I expect better food and service! This place will NOT get a third time out of us! I should have taken my cue from the woman who left while we were waiting, she said that was the worst food and sevice she had, next time I hear someone leaving a place saying something like that, I WILL listen!
- Cons: poor service, do not get your money's worth
