The worst shimp po-boy ever

by TMunster at Citysearch

Although the shrimp were pentiful, they were under cooked and soggy. The french bread, should not even be called french bread, again soggy and fell apart. I'm a native New Orleanean and know good po-boys, this was by far the worst shrimp po-boy I've ever gotten. Won't be back.

  • Cons: Soggy bread and undercooked shrimp

Great Fried Seafood Plater

by BurkesRT at Citysearch

I go to Oschners Medical foundation every 60 days or so, We stay at the Hotel St. Marie in the Quarted and Crabby Jacks on the route to Oscners. First time we stoped and ate the seafood plater we knew we had found one of the local jewels. Their platter is far better than any of the food in the French Quarter and less than half price. We eat there every time we go down now. The platter also is very LARGE, with generous portions of all the seafood they serve

  • Pros: Food, Price, and Service
  • Cons: Location

Smoky, Atrocious, Cattle Call

by NOLAFoodie at Citysearch

Thought I'd try this place, so I stopped by and picked up a hot sausage po-boy, an order of fries and some onion rings. The ordering process went well. The service was fine. Although, the place was SO smoky. I left there smelling like grease. The whole place is a major cluster. Junk everywhere. Fountain drink machine was" out of order". There was a regular menu board and another hand written dry erase board with specials. Then they had another little station where they do tossed salads - which was kind of random for a po-boy joint. The salad station also had a menu board that was kind of confusing with lots of things crossed out. The kitchen was horrendous.

The french bread was soft and chewy; not crispy like a real po-boy should be. I know. I'm from New Orleans. They put thinly shredded romaine lettuce on their sandwiches??? What the heck is that all about? And they only put like a few shreds. They also use sliced roma tomatoes (or very small tomato slices???) The hot sausage patties were undercooked and mushy. The shredded cheese was the pre-packaged kind that doesn't really melt well. The fries were absolutely awful. They were tasteless, majorly undercooked and soggy. The onion rings (frozen). Most of their products are the "Sysco Special". Won't be back and won't recommend. There are way too many other better places around town. Sorry to be so crabby!

Oh, and get a web-site for crying out loud!

Wonderful po boys!

by pitterpat7 at Citysearch

We decided to try this place for lunch and arrived right at noon which is peak time. The line was out the door, but moved reasonably quickly. You could really tell the staff was working as quickly as possible to make their customers happy, which was a pleasant change from other NOLA restaurants lately. Every free second they had they were cleaning tables, tidying, and bussing meals to the customers. I was so impressed with their work ethic and hospitality. Sounds so simple, but lately our dining experiences in New Orleans have been met with arrogant waitstaff who think they're too good for their jobs.

My friend had the paneed rabbit po boy and I had the slow roasted duck po boy - both were very, very good. The onion rings were excellent as well, perfectly seasoned and fresh. Jacque himself brought out our order and apologized for the craziness, which we didn't mind since we frequent Jacque Imo's often and are used to the hustle and bustle. He also went around the restaurant making sure everyone was happy - what a wonderful owner and chef! By 12:45pm, there was absolutely no line. So don't be hesitant about going just because of a long line, it moves fast or if you arrive a little later you won't have to wait at all. It's completely worth the trip and absolutely delicious!

  • Pros: Delicious po boys, friendly service
  • Cons: Limited seating

This informal Jacques-Imo's spinoff packs in crowds with creative seafood and lunch-counter standbys.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
Down-market and informal, Jack's is everything you'd expect from a restaurant grafted onto a wholesale-fish distributor. Stuffed fish and deer heads stare down from white-paneled walls; a few utilitarian Formica tables and a storefront-length bar provide quick seating for a mixed blue/white-collar crowd. Counter service is prompt and flirtatious.

The Food
The menu features local lunch-counter classics with modern, updated flavors: peppery mixed greens replace iceberg in salads and "dressed" sandwiches; perfectly fried calamari provide a solid alternative to the usual shrimp/oyster/catfish trifecta. The kitchen's best work is highlighted on the specials board, like tender, stuffed mirliton topped with sautéed shrimp and chili cream sauce; blackened drum; fried green tomatoes with tangy shrimp remoulade. Some specials have become year-round classics, including messy 12-napkin po'-boys with smothered duck or pan-fried rabbit tenderloin. Light eaters can make a meal out of the sizeable red beans or meaty rice dressing side dishes.

Nice casual place

by irishowens at Citysearch

Though it has only one front room, with limited space, Crabbys makes the best of it. The Po boys are way above average, and the Shrimp Mirliton with Seafood Sauce is very good..... infact borderline excellant. And the staff is very courteous, as well. I went around 11:15am on a Saturday, so there wasn't much of a wait. The best way to describe Crabby Jacks is, "It's Naturally New Orleans."

  • Pros: great food, quick service, friendly staff

Best Po Boys in NOLA

by huskyduck at Citysearch

Hands down, the best po boys in NOLA. Get it dressed and sized large if you are hungry. Add a bag of chips and a Barqs and you are set.

Their lunch meals are also top notch and substantial and better than most places that charge 4 times as much for the same thing.

This is probably the best deal value wise in the entire city. The only catch is they are lunch only.

  • Pros: Po Boys, Food, Value
