Major Disappointment in the French Quarter
by sw72769 at Citysearch
On a recent trip to New Orleans ate here based upon Man vs Food and recommendations from locals. I had great expectations that turned into a major disappointment. We ordered the seafood platter. Instead of bread or rolls theyserve red potatoes at each table which are tasty. But I've never eaten seafood fried that hard before. It was so hard that it was stabbing my gums. Needless to say I will never eat there again. Dined there during a weekend festival and I believe the prices were inflated due to the large number of tourists. Don't waste your money.
- Pros: service,portions
- Cons: long wait, loud noise, food
THE BEST SEAFOOD AND SERVICE FOR YOUR DOLLAR
by smokehousefat at Citysearch
I was born and raised in LA. and I know my seafood. I saw Deanies Restaurant on the "MAN AGAINST FOOD" show on the travel channel and I saw this humongous seafood platter like I had never seen before, I live approximately 160 miles from Metaire LA., but I knew I had go to Deanies to see what it was all about. Valentines Day rolled around, programmmed my GPS for Deanies and I was rolling.Had to wait 35 minutes to get inside because of the holiday. once inside, the magic began with the server wanting to know if my fiance and I were local after she greeted us, when I told her of how I found out about Deanies and how far we had traveled, she said "I have got to make you all A local " so you will come back. We had to try the small seafood platter and the bbq shrimp, crab claws. my fiance also had the shrimp dinner.
The quality, taste and quantity of food for the dollar was great. The service at Deanies was past excellent, when the server asked us were we ready for dessert, we told her we had no room left and she gave us a handfull of hershey kisses, her personality was bubbly and she was very attentive the entire time we were there.
THE FOOD AND SERVICE WERE GREAT.....NUFF SAID
- Pros: FOOD AND SERVICE WERE GREAT
- Cons: NONE
Deanie's is completely miss. Go to Drago's.

My whole family is from Louisiana, so I know good seafood when I am tasting it, and this is not it.
This seafood is bland and tastes pre-packaged. Even the boiled seafood didn't have enough seasoning to taste like something befitting the state. I can't imagine why it should be as popular as it is among visitors to New Orleans unless they are just buying the hype and don't know better. I have bought better seafood out of gas stations. Sadly, this is not even an exaggeration. I nibbled off of a number of items had at the table: crawfish prepared four ways, fried calamari and my dish of stuffed flounder, and found everything to be average to below-average tasting.
The service also left something to be desired. I can't remember the last time I stared at a glass of water for so long. I cannot in good faith recommend this place. Try Drago's for good seafood (unless you would RATHER have a foot-high plate of tripe than a tasty and satisfying meal).
- Pros: Lots of food.
- Cons: Food is gross.
Quite possibly the originator of seafood-related overindulgence.

In Short
Deanie's ambience is upscale, but when it comes to eating, diners roll up their sleeves and get down and dirty. The boiled seafood pizza is a new spin on two old favorites. For a little variety, try the crab or crawfish quartet. For a lot of variety (and a mountain of food), go with the giant seafood platter--a fried feast, for you and a couple of friends.

The Deanie's difference
by audballg at Citysearch
If you're looking for a place for no thrills, kid-friendly sample of seafood this is your place. Although it was recommended in AAA magazine, we'll pass next time. The food was decent, the service reminded me of a greasy spoon diner place and the ambience--what ambience--a teenage hangout?
BarBQ Shrimp is amazing
by klevlins at Citysearch
We went to Deanies twice during this trip to New Orleans. The BBQ shrimp was out of this world!!! Could have eaten it every day!! I will be finding that recipe!!! They serve you with spicy new potatoes rather than the traditional rolls before your meal. They were delicious and quite a nice change of pace. The second day we had the shrimp po-boy which also was quite delicious.
I highly recommend trying this spot. The prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is great for families or couples.
Try the calamari!
by june05 at Citysearch
It was recommeded to us by a lady working at our hotel. I thought this place was great, but when I first walked in I was a little thrown off by the atmosphere. Very loud, clanky dishes; it reminded me of a high school cafeteria. They bring out boiled potatoes to eat while you are deciding what to order, and they are wonderful. I knew then we hadn't made a mistake by staying. I also had some calamari- it was the best I've ever had, fried to perfection. The waiter was very abrupt and in a hurry, but we never went without anything we needed. I wouldnt recommend this for a romantic night out, but the food was excellent.
- Pros: food, wait staff, location
- Cons: loud, atmosphere
decent

Boiled shrimp are amazing and the boiled potatoes you get instead of bread are delicious. That is where it ends. The fried seafood platter for $18 is all catfish and there is no seasoning on the fried fish. Very greatsy and heavy tasting. Good cold beer. Overall, just get the boiled shrimp.
- Pros: boiled shrimp
- Cons: , not the greatest
