Avoid- Bad cut and attitude
by 333me333 at Citysearch
I have been to this salon twice for a haircut. I was not satisfied the first time but went back again anyway out of convenience (location). The same hair dresser, a young blonde that seemed inexperienced and unfriendly cut my hair both times. The second time once the cut was over I was asked to look in the mirror and let her know what I thought. When I told her that I thought it looked like a mushroom top and that the top layer was too short, she said" well there is nothing I can do with that because it is too short". WHY would she have cut a layer well above my ears, who does that??????????? She said that her own doing was too short!!!!!!
I will never go to this salon again. That young lady should go back to beauty school.
Also, I am a dog lover, but not a fan of fleas. If you do not mind bad haircuts, rudeness and fleas then this place is for you.
Very unfortunate.
I love this place!

I followed DeShea from another salon a couple of years ago. I hope she doesn't go anywhere else because I would be torn as to whether follow her or stay here!
DeShea is an awesome stylist, but I really like everyone there. Everyone's really friendly and I like the salon itself. Dallas has a really good thing going!
- Pros: Awesome staff
- Cons: Wish it was closer to my house
Great experience every time!

Every time I walk out of Salon Du Beau Monde I am so pleased with my hair and the overall experience. DeShea is very talented and is willing to have fun with hair. For my latest visit, I decided to do some color. I am so happy with the results; a rich, chocolate brown. I would and have recommended this salon to friends. Best salon in NOLA...and I've been to my fair share.
- Pros: Talented staff who listen to your requests and ideas
This man is an artist.

I have read some of these reviews and as a former employee, I would like to give the potential client some insight into this salon.
Dallas Alleman is one of the most highly regarded professionals in the industry. The man is a genius. His experience and educational background goes back 30+ years. His work rivals Sassoon, Jose Eber, Fekkai, and most of the renowned stylists in the business. He costs more because he is worth more and his expertise is specialized. Hair color is the center of salon services in his salon. He has tremendous knowledge in this area. He has educated people from Europe to the US and around the world in this business.
He takes his work very seriously, paying very close attention to EVERY SINGLE DETAIL. That kind of attention and service is rare. Most stylists are incapable of staying that focused.
This is a specialized salon, and if you are looking for a giddy hairdresser that never stops talking and isn't paying attention, then Dallas is not your man.
If you are looking for someone who can give you something that no one else can, and can really deliver exceptional haircolor and a great haircut, then the extra price is worth it and you should take the time to book an appointment. He does do incredible updo's and fabulous party/special occasion hair. Fashion magazine caliber.
Of all the people I have worked for, he is the most talented. And if you were having your portrait painted by Michaelangelo, would you expect him to talk the whole time? I would hope not!!
Fantastic: HIGHLY Recommend for fab service!

While on a road trip I decided to get my hair cut and colored and searched this site. After reading the reviews I called and booked an appt with Dominic that afternoon. I wanted my cut cleaned up and my color was a correction, not just a one-process, as I'd been doing it at home. Dominic and Dallas didn't sigh or shake their heads, instead they collaborated and Dominic was perfect. He made me feel at home and left me to read when I needed a break (I'm also recovering from a spinal fusion, so I get tired and overheated easily). When the hair drying caused problems he was calm and sweet with me. My cut is FANTASTIC, and I didn't pay a penny over what I was quoted on the phone. The owner Dallas was kind and welcoming, as was the girl who worked up front with the phones. I could easily walk back to the W by myself. Thanks! I LOVE my 'do!
- Pros: attention to detail, communication, aveda products
I love this salon!

I've been to Salon Du Beau seeing Dallas several times. He spends a lot of time perfecting my haircut. The last salon I went to my hairdresser would juggle several clients at once. This drove me crazy. If I am paying a lot for a hair cut I want to think the salon is giving me full attention while I am there. Dallas certainly does this. He will spend a lot of time making sure the cut is perfect. He is very quiet during the cut but I really prefer that. I am quiet also and don't like real chatty hairdressers. But, he is very personable. My haircut is always beautiful. The salon is clean, very low keyed and not pretentious. The gals that work there are very nice also. Though, I have never had my hair done by them so I can't speak on that. The only negative for me is the price. Unfortunaley, due to the economy I won't be able to go back until things start to turn around.
- Pros: Excellent precision haircuts
- Cons: The price
Didn't want my business
by 002Girl at Citysearch
Called 2+ weeks in advance for 2 appointments - an updo/style & makeup for a wedding I was going to be in town for. Also wanted to book a color & cut for my mother. Was politely told that they didn't do makeup (although their website lists Adam the make up artist) and that basically they don't do updos for non-clients due to their limited staff. WOW - what a disappointment. Guess they don't need the biz. It's too bad - as mother of the groom I might have been good advertising for the salon. They should list their restrictions on their website. Really burst my bubble and will definitely advise my New Orleans friends/family NOT to call them.

I can understand your disappointment, but we are a small salon... We specialize in Haircuts, Hair Color and most importantly in Corrective Color... No where in our advert do we suggest that we do hair for bridal parties. That is a specialty in itself and we don't have anyone on our staff at the moment that feels comfortable doing that type of work. There are other services we don't do, like relaxers or extensions. We are all limited by our expertise, that is why you require someone to do your hair and makeup... I am trully sorry that we disappointed you in this way...
Free Attitude with your $100 Haircut
by newtoNOLA at Citysearch
I've been going to this salon since before the storm. I tolerated the attitude because I felt they were the best in the city. Last time I was there I was treated so poorly I vowed never to return. The blonde that Dallas used looked beautiful but damaged my hair so significantly that I have to keep cutting my hair short every month. I have no problem paying $100 for a haircut but I refuse to be mistreated and practically ignored by my hairstylist.
- Pros: Upscale Facility and quality haircut
- Cons: Damaged my hair

I would llike to take this opprotunity to give you some insight into my personality... I have spent over 30 years perfecting the techniques I use. I can see how someone might feel ignored because of the concentration and attention to detail I put into my work. There are times when I barely say a word during a service. I learned a long time ago that there are things like my personal life, politics, sex and religion that shouldn't be discussed in the salon. The only thing left to talk about is the weather and your hair. I choose to spend our time together on your hair. My trademark is that I do great haircuts and beautiful color. I also hum in your ear while I work... Thanks for understanding, Dallas
Atrocious

The staff has to be writing the other reviews because my experience there can only be summed up in one word: ATROCIOUS. My appointment was with Rachel and she gave me the worst color & cut ever.

We make every effort to listen to a clients needs and make our best attempt to achieve them, but it seems sometimes we don't meet thier expectations... When I read a review like this, I often wonder why clients don't feel that they can express thier disappointment whilst they are in the salon... Is there some unspoken rule that says you can't question the work... I hope that this person would contact me, I will make it right... We are here to design the best hair possible. To those of you who read this response... In this salon we listen, with our combined experience as a team and a great dedication to our work we strive only to meet your expectations, no less... If you get less, please say something... I care about what you have to say... Dallas
Needed some color correction, got me back into this century!

Rachel at SDBM is a really competent coloris/stylist! She understood my griefs with past colorists and bad haircuts! Thank God because my hair was headed down Melrose Avenue and that's about a decade too late!
Worth it !
Great service and advice

I absolutely loved the experience I had at Salon Du Beau Monde. I am new to NOLA and needed a salon. I got lucky when I made the choice to make an appointment at this salon. Rest assured that I am in no way associated with the business. I chose the salon as a stab in the dark after seeing the website. I am completely satisfied with Rachael?s color and cut that she gave me. She took the time to discuss with me what I wanted. I am getting married in April and she even took the time to consider how I wanted my hair to be for the wedding. She advised me not to go as drastically short as I initially wanted, due to the fact that I want to have long hair again for the big day. I am so glad that I listened to her! Additionally, the color was brilliant. I was the only customer in the place, as my appointment was really late in the day, but Rachael and Dallas made me feel right at home. I would recommend this salon to anyone who asked. It was a charming experience for a reasonable price.
- Pros: no rush service here, the staff takes the time to actually consult with you
- Cons: cant really think of one
