Serving some of the best tacos in town, this Uptown spot makes it easy to get great authentic (and cheap) Mexican.

by Gerrish Lopez

In Short
Here you can watch Magazine Street passers-by through the window. Photos and murals of Central America line the walls. The open kitchen adds to the atmosphere as diners see, smell and hear their food being prepared. This local eatery specializes in authentic Mexican. That means pico de gallo not salsa for starters, soft-tortilla tacos topped with pico and cilantro, fish and tongue entrees and traditional arroz con leche (rice pudding) for dessert.

Not Authentic

by nola2008

This place was a huge disapointment. After seeing the reviews and seeing it on the "best of" list, I thought I would get something decent. The place is definitely not authentic Mexican food. I would honestly compare the food to microwave food that cost 10 bucks a plate. The place was just really crowded but the service was decent.

  • Pros: Decent Service, Great Location
  • Cons: Awful food, No parking

best mexican restaurant in new orleans

by latinamom

this is one of my favorite places to go. When i get friends or family to visit this is the first place i take them to go out to eat. No matter what you oder everything is great and the service is wonderful. Sometimes there is a line to get in but dont let that stop you from waiting cause it worth the wait and really you dont wait long. they also have latin music in the background makes you want to get up and dance. Also their maragrita's are great go try i promise it will be one of your favorite places.

  • Pros: great service
  • Cons: parking

Best Mexican Uptown

by nolauptowngirl

I don't know of anyone who has ever had a bad experience at Taqueria Corona, and can't possibly explain the one bad review on this site. The food is perfect, authentic Mexican at a dirt cheap price. The fish tacos and black bean soup are among the best I've ever had - this coming from someone who lived in Texas for 10 years, and has traveled extensively through Mexico. The service and ambience are basic, but that isn't what you go there for. The Best Mexican in Uptown New Orleans by far, and can hold its own with any Mexican restaurant in New Orleans and beyond.

  • Pros: Food
  • Cons: Parking

TASTY

by toastednewt

This place is great if you want to eat mexican food. Don't let the cheap prices fool you. This food is GOOD. It's nothing fancy (not at all, really), but super delicious. The employees may not speak English all that well, but at least they know how to make good grub. I highly recommend this place to anyone who needs a quick and satisfying bite to eat.

  • Pros: DELICIOUS FOOD
  • Cons: Servers speak 'okay' English

No No No

by lisimpson

The Mexican food here is NOT GOOD. Not even relative to the few choices there are for Mexican fare in New Orleans. From the salsa to the tacos, the flavor and consistency is all wrong. The service also seems to have a hard time handling a crowd. Not Recommended

FISH TACOS!!!!

by sccp

I could eat a fish taco from Taqueria Corona every day! Crispy fish and cabbage, spicy and creamy sauce... yum! Also, start with the cebollitas -- salty and limey and DEEE-licious. If you have a problem with communication, remember that for some servers, English is a second language. THAT'S why the food is so good! It's authentic. And cheap -- bonus! Oh -- and best margarits EVER.

  • Pros: delicious, cheap, many locations
  • Cons: parking can be hard

Low-budget rarely tastes so good

by MauraYork_Citysearch

Next time you're considering a fast-food value meal, take your cash and hunger to Taqueria -- king-sized burritos, up-sized flavors and big value. And both takeout and dining in offer a better experience than most drive-throughs. Taqueria is a better way to spend your little bit of money.

Better than Texas and Cal.

by LisaGlasser

By far, the best Mexican food in the world, run by El Salvadorians. Roberto the owner greets regulars by name. Black beans and rice for close to nothing, phenomenal guacamole, flautas, and the best tacos al carbon (ask to add cheese if you want). Do yourself a favor and sample one of the combination platters or split one with a friend. No lengthy description needed. If you like Mexican food at all, this place is the BEST. One of my favorite places in New Orleans overall.

  • Pros: Cheap, friendly
