A laid-back atmosphere for discerning, high-profile guests..
The Scene
A serene ambiance and stunning appointments make this a favorite of low-key stars such as Paul Newman and Robert Duvall. While you won't find a pool, fitness center or other extras that usually go with a top hotel, it is still arguably one of the city's best. It is actually two 19th-century Creole town houses on opposite sides of Chartres Street,. In each building the entry is a carriageway leading to a sunlit courtyard.
The Details
The 33 rooms and suites are decorated with European and Louisiana antiques. Soft colors echo the aged pink, sand and bleached bricks of the exterior. The beds are made with fine linens and there are good books to read on the shelves. There's no restaurant, but the well-stocked honor bars invite spontaneous cocktails in the parlor. A breakfast that includes homemade Louisiana strawberry jam is served to guests for an extra $7.50.
