The freshest seafood in the city! I ate things I thought I didn't like and loved them (lobster ravioli)! The biscuits were devilish, just like the waiter mentioned, so delicious but don't let them trick you into filling up on them! We did a tasting menu and the bartender was nice enough to do a mixed drink pairing with the dinner for me since I'm not a wine enthusiast. GW Fins has definitely set the bar on seafood!
Awesome!. We love this place and visit every year! It is on our rotation - GW Fins and Muriel's every visit. The biscuits are amazing and they were even willing to give me the recipe! Every appetizer, salad and entree we had tried has been amazing! The service is always personable and comfortable. In a city with amazing food, this is one of the best!
Great place for a romantic night out!. This place was definitely one of our favorites in New Orleans. It has a great ambiance and wonderful staff. The menu is different every day and there is a nice variety of choices. My husband and I ordered different seafood entrees and were very pleased with the freshness of the fish and scallops. The meal was pricey but definitely worth it! We would definitely go back there again on our way through the city!
good seafood. i went with a fairly large group (8) and yet we were seated promptly. we all had a great time and the service was not bad. i had the lump crab salad (mixed greens, asparagus, and tomatoes with a creamy basil dressing) to start and that was delicious. the buttermilk bread, by the way, was warm and so good -- i had 4!!! i also had the chilean sea bass (braised in a hot and sour shrimp stock with enoki mushrooms, sauteed spinach and boc choy) which felt so buttery it just melted in your mouth. i also tried a friend's scallop entree -- that was very good too. everything there was just good. i would go back for some great seafood!
DOES NOT DISAPPOINT!. PROMPT SEATING, SPACE BETWEEN TABLES, JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF SERVICE, FOOD TO DIE FOR, OWNER VERY ATTENTIVE TO ALL OF HIS PATRONS, YOU GET A VERY GOOD FEELING ABOUT BEING THERE...VERY SIMPLY PUT....."EAT THERE!!!"
Fresh fish from around the world characterizes the menu at this seafood lover's haven..
In Short
Steps from Bourbon Street, GW Fins is a world away from the outside hustle. The dining room is large and open, with vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and a wall of windows. Aquatic-themed artwork adorns the walls. Fresh fish imported from around the globe is always the catch of the day. The rotating daily menu features favorites like salmon and sea bass, but lesser-seen entries like escolar, triple tail, drum and striped bass are also available.
OOOOOOOOH so good!.
They went above and beyond our expectations for our 1st anniversary. The table was specially decorated, menus were personalized for the occasion, and desert was brought out with an additional plate that read, "Happy 1st Anniversary" written in chocolate. The entire staff made sure we were well taken care of.
I haven't even mentioned the food. The Lobster dumplings were incredible. I had to remember my manners to stop myself from licking the plate. The grilled scallops with the rizoto was to die for. I was so enthralled by my meal, I don't remember what my husband had. (Actually, I think he had the sesame crusted tuna.) To finalize the meal, we split a creme brulee. It was a creme brulee in it's finest form. (no cornstarch or gelatin used that I could tell).
I have no clue about the land based entrees.
In NOLA, you gotta eat the seafood.
Amy is the best. Our server Amy was very informative to the selections and the wine pairing, when we had special requests for the preparation there was no question and the meal was served promptly and exactly the way requested. The Sea Bass was excellant.
Great place....tainted by "that guy". I took my girlfriend of 10 years to GW Fins to propose to her. This experience was ruined by the guy sitting next to our table. He was obviously drunk, as he was vulger, loud and obnoxious in everything he did; telling stories of snorting various illicits, dropping F-bombs every minute and then whining to his friends that he didn't want to share a meal with people that were mad at him. This is a fine establishment, but management should be more attentive to the effect of unruly patrons coming in off of "Bur-Bon" street.
Unexpected. It was the end of a very hectic day when I went here and this place was like a tonic. The service was excellent and atmosphere sophisticated but very relaxed. Don't expect New Orleans seafood (though the gumbo was outstanding) but the fish is world class. The sweet potatoes are like a taste of heaven.
