The Scene
This 1950s hotel has retained an air of elegant intimacy, beginning with an especially pretty courtyard and a homelike reception area adorned with handsome Oriental rugs, lovely paintings and antique appointments. Among its celebrated guests have been Tennessee Williams, Elizabeth Taylor and Robert Redford. The adjacent Bistro at Maison de Ville offers contemporary French-American fare in an exquisite little dining room and patio.
The Details
The heart of this property is a 1783 townhouse compound that includes the original slave quarters and a carriage house. Each of the 16 guest rooms here has its own decor and is furnished attractively with period-style pieces. The seven Audubon Cottages are located a few blocks away on Dauphine Street. They are essentially junior suites nestled behind individual walled gardens. All have easy access to a large swimming pool.

Older, meticulously maintained hotel in the French Quarter. Nice location, can be very local in its atmosphere. Staff courteous and helpful, rooms can be small.

I surprised my wife with a stay in the cottages for our anniversary. The service was exceptional as the clerk taking my reservation went above and beyond in assisting me in making reservations and an itinerary for our stay. Very romantic setting with the cottage pool and courtyards hidden in the middle of the French Quarter. Exceptional, top notch service from all hotel staff and great food and service at the Bistro.
