Editorial Review for M.S. Rau Antiques – by Hilary Doherty
The Scene
Opened in 1912, M.S. Rau houses arguably the finest collection of antiques in the country. In fact, "Grand Fanny" could be seen there into her 99th year. Part of the family's success lies in the fact that New Orleans remained virtually unscathed during the Civil War.
The Draw
You are transported through time and space, browsing over the 25,0000 square feet of this French Quarter pantheon to the past. From suits of armor, gramophones, rare Chinese porcelain and a renowned cane collection to a book holding Louis XV's plans to invade England, you will be awestruck by the varied and informative pieces. A staff of 50 scours the world collecting valuables, which, for the right price, could become the centerpiece to your home. (Of course, the right price could easily run into tens, even hundreds, of thousands of dollars.)
