excellent barbecue. cheap and really good. all the meats and the sides are highly recommended. brisket, molasses-sweet cole slaw, beans, pulled pork... it's all good. big screens, pool tables, and drink specials make it an all-around great place for lunch or happy hour.

Definitely not a purebreed, this agreeable mutt of a neighborhood hangout harbors no pretensions to hipness.. The Scene
Bars and restaurants in the increasingly gentrified Warehouse District usually fall into one of two categories--they're either interminably hip or defiantly dive-like. The Ugly Dog Saloon proudly falls into the latter classification. A cavernous, one-time warehouse itself, the saloon is located on the edge of the district and attracts a decidedly local crowd. The patrons mostly play pool while waiting for their barbecue.

The Draw
Banks of TVs are permanently set on ESPN or Fox Sports; it's a great place to watch Saints games on Sunday afternoons. Amateur photos of ugly dogs dominate the place. Local musicians set up at the Ugly Dog on the weekends, when it turns into an oversized practice site for New Orleans garage bands. The barbecue menu includes pulled pork or beef sandwiches, brisket platters, spare ribs, smoked sausage and combos. Those not into barbecue can opt for a chicken quesadilla, salad or burger.

Good lunch. I went there after a museum tour and a great time. The lunch special was great value and the bartender/waitress was really nice. (I ate at the bar.) The locals were really friendly and helpful when they found out I was tourist.

Packed crowd for lunch and there were a lot of TVs to catch up on sports scores.
