Editorial Review for Napoleon House Bar & Cafe – by Kevin Forest Moreau

In Short
Napoleon House was supposedly built by French loyalists in the hopes that it would be used by Napoleon Bonaparte, who was exiled on Elba at the time. With classical music providing a genteel background, the restaurant-bar sports a dark, quiet and comfortable ambience, making it a hangout for bohemian and eclectic types. While the cafe serves sandwiches and traditional local fare, Girod's Bistro, a separate restaurant, offers upscale cuisine including grilled duck, seafood and tapas selections.

We love Napoleon House. You can stop in for a helping of affordable jambalaya/muffaletta, and it's GOOD! Unless you're famished, you could split one muffaletta with someone, along with a cold Abita Springs beer, and feel content. One day we did have to wait awhile for our waiter, but it happened only once. Atmosphere is casual to quaint, depending on where you sit, and the place is clean. The courtyard is delightful. It may be best to go there at "inbetween times" when they're not so busy.

Pros: Sections in menu are very affordable ~ and GOOD!

Cons: Service can be spotty but overcome with a little patience.

Even after the hurricane, Napolean House survives! Love the Pimm's cups, and their bread pudding is a;ways a treat!
