The Scene
Low-key and unpretentious, the tavern is dominated by a cluster of unadorned wooden tables. Tourists, students and a varied assortment of regulars, including law-enforcement types who usually hold court near the back, jam the dining room often and at odd times.

The Food
Regular Joe staples--breakfast (try the Belgian waffle), steaks, sandwiches--are served. New Orleans' favorites include gumbo and slightly watery red beans and rice redeemed by savory smoked sausage. Fried appetizers do their job without much fanfare, though a chili starter is the flavorful exception. The Cajun grilled chicken breast arrives slightly overdone, but is still very tasty. Crawfish fettuccine and a heavily seasoned Cajun burger are also good bets. Steaks come thick and juicy, just the way they should.

NO question the WORST food I have EVER had in NOLA, or pretty much anywhere! I ordered hash and received a plateful of nondescript cubed potatoes along with sausage that tasted like it had been kept around WAY too long and some really dried out, OLD chicken. Topped off by slimy, undercooked fried eggs. I'd rather go hungry.

We've been there several times and have had varying experiences. Tuesday night all you can eat crabs and potatoes and hush puppies are good. We've done this several times, the seasoning is very good - the crabs are mostly "skinny" - I guess they get a good deal - no complaints. The place is a dump - but in a good way. Tuesday nights in crab season are usually packed and worth $10. Best meatball poboy around - so says my husband. I've only had the boiled crabs and I have no complaints. We've brought others on Tuesday nights and no complaints. I had a steak there one night and it wasn't steak night - so the steak was about $20 and was NOT a $20 steak - I said so to the waitress and they gave us a discount on the steak - which was acceptable to us.
