"Water Bugs" inside restaurant ruin the meal.
I visited NOLA in mid-August. The food was surprisingly mediocre, and what slight enjoyment we derived from it was spoiled by waterbugs, otherwise know as COCKROACHES inside the restaurant. One was
acceptable to me, but when another one scrambled over my friend's foot (and yes, we saw it) we paid the bill and left. My friends were a tad dramatic about the whole affair, but hey who wants giant bugs around them while they eat an expensive meal?
All I can say is that at least they didn't fly . . . .…
NOLA is a NO! NO!.
Best thing about NOLA - decor and atmosphere.
Worst thing about NOLA - High prices/tiny portions.
Mediocre thing about NOLA - food
Amazing thing about NOLA - how many wait staff it takes to serve those tiny portions.
Annoying thing about NOLA - constant interruptions by wait staff while we were trying to have dinner.
Don't let yourself be sucked in by the classy appearance and by the Emeril name - resist with all that is within you or prepare for disappointment!…
Very Very dissappointed.
I was pretty excited about eating at NOLA since my wife and I stumbled upon it while walking around the French Quarter. We noticed they had a special menu for mothers day that night, but we were too
late to sit down. So, we made plans to make reservations for the next day.
The next night, we were thrilled to find out that they still had the "special" quiche from the previous days menu. However, when we received it, we quickly noticed that it REALLY WAS from the previous day. The serving size was sooo tiny that just two bites and we were just over halfway through. I commented to the waiter that it tasted like rubber, but I did not expect a comp nor was I going to fight for one. I figured the filet mignon I ordered was a sure thing.
Well, the steak was really more of a 4 oz medallion... there were four tiny pieces of potato. Im not kidding.. the four pieces wouldn't have added up to a half of one potato. The walnut topping was half of one walnut cut in two. Truly pathetic for $38 plus tax.
I've eaten at several gourmet restaurants around the country, so I did not expect an enourmous meal like you would get at a chain restaurant... but a 4 oz steak and a few pieces of potato?! A child would have trouble getting full with that!
Easily my worst experience in 3 trips and several dines in the city of New Orleans. If you want to pay a hefty price for decent cooking and tiny portions..this is your place. There are sooooo many other options in wonderful New Orleans. You usually can't go wrong.…
Great Service.
We had the gumbo of the day - braised pork, sausage with black eyed peas - and for dinner, the shrimp and grits. These dishes were by far the best I have ever tasted! The gumbo was unusual, but
awesome. We also ordered fried oysters, and they were great as well; fried perfectly so you could still taste them.
Service was excellent. I noticed the reviews stated bad service, but my water was refilled without ever having to ask, our plates came out hot and even @ the same time, and the waiter was knowledgeable and helpful to a tourist like us!
Only con was the seating was a bit cramped in the section we were in. We could overhear the tables next to us perfectly, and the couple next to us even started talking to us. The restaurant is large, so just ask to sit at a good spot if other are available to avoid this...…
Favorite restaurant in New Orleans. Went for lunch on a Friday. Contrary to many reviews, the atmosphere to include the lack of excessive noise was perfect. Well attended to by three staffers. Stuffed deboned chicken wings to start were great. Jalapeno corn bread moist and nicely flavored. Wife had the boneless fried chicken and it was awesome. Breading crisp while chicken still moist. She didn't want the side dishes that accompanied her dish and they gladly brought her other sides to include the house "mac and cheese" and honey baked white beans both of which are must haves. I had the "shrimp and grits" and it was spectacular. 1/2 dozen large shrimp with a great flavor and the perfect level of doneness. Creamy grits with a nice texture and a delicious butter sauce. We lived in New Orleans for 8 years and have been to all the Brennan's family restaurants and the other Emeril's restaurants as well as the renowned Bayona and Brightsen's. This was the most enjoyable meal I've had at any of them. Comfortable atmosphere, great service, wonderful food and for a cheapskate I felt the meal was well worth every penny.…
