Non-alcoholic Rest Stop in the Quarter. Coffee shops are sorely lacking in the French Quarter, so this place was a welcomed sight for me. They have great coffee and pastries, plus you can make your own blend of tea. Very nice place to sit on a nice day, as they have a pretty, private courtyard where you can rest.

Coffee drinkers unwind inside at wooden chairs and tables or in the flagstone courtyard with metal chairs and tables, brick walls and overhanging greenery. Royal offers a wide selection of coffee and teas, including dessert-flavored coffees such as bananas Foster. The shop also sells cookies and coffee- and tea-brewing accessories.

A Private Courtyard. Courtyards are to the FQ what penthouses are to Manhattan. Privacy and quiet in the middle of traffic. Now you can enjoy the benefits of one as you sip your coffee, eat your sandwich or pastry and read the latest Anne Rice. There are 4-6 tables in the yard with umbrellas and plenty of cool foliage. There's even a small pool with fish. Everything you need to relax. You might wake yourself up with your own snoring, though.
