Great local joint, authentic food.. I have been for brunch, lunch and dinner and been pleased each time. Great french onion soup and mussels. Precious place and very "new orleans." Always had good service and never waited over 10 minutes but watch when you go. There may be a wait.

Average joint, cheap interior, small menu. First, let's face it: There is not many Brunch places left to chose from in New Orleans after Katrina. The Cafe Degas is a good attempt to have one in a residential area.

Other than that the cafe is an average joint (to my Houston-based habits) with nice artists and fun people atmosphere, but almost non-existent interior design (wooden frame of the old house) and patio turned into a mansard for a few extra tables. The menu is small. Not enough waiters, we waited for ours every time for a half-hour. it's not too bad, but dining in any place in French quarter would be a bit easier.

Terrible customer service. My son and I visited for Sunday brunch and had the rudest waiter we've ever had in a restaurant anywhere. The food was delicious, but in no way made up for the hostile service. A complaint to the manager produced a shrug and "Thanks for the news." Clearly they satisfy a regular, local crowd. Good thing - I'd never go there again.

Wonderful French Cuisine without the snobbery. I have lived in New Orleans all of my life and love the food and dining scene here. I always attempt to try all of the new places in town, but there are a few places that are simply so wonderful that I can't help but frequent them and Cafe Degas is one of those places. Located in a unique part of town, by City Park and the New Orleans Museum of Art, Cafe Degas sets the atmosphere for a lengthy indulgent meal that you can enjoy with friends or a romantic partner. Most recently when my boyfriend and I were dining there a man proposed to his date right next to us (it's just one of those special places). It is hard to say what to order because everything there is splendid. As mentioned in another review, the French Onion Soup is one of the best I have ever had. The cheese plate is delectable and always changing and the staff gives good insight on wine pairings. I always like to see what the specials are, but the menu changes seasonally. Degas definitely changes their menu seasonally but stays true to true French cuisine. I even had my first veal cheek there, which was amazing. Basically you can not go wrong at Cafe Degas the food and price of it are all to be desired.

Like its namesake, this French hideaway has panache for detail.. In Short
Serving fine French cuisine in casual surroundings (suits or shorts will do). Mid-City locals should try to keep Degas their own little secret. This small restaurant has a wooden cottage feel with a Florida-style front and a reasonably priced menu selection. Starters include tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella while entrees feature lamb and roasted boneless duck breast. For dessert the chocolate mousse is semi-sweet.

User review by noyburger. Cafe Degas has become one of my favorites, since moving to the neighborhood. With a pricey wine list, I was surprised they sat my boyfriend and me with our own two bottles of wine. There is a corking fee of $10/pop. Overall, we still saved about $30 and spent some on escargot and vichyssoise. Now how about that? I'd say, they're pretty smart and flexible for just popping bottles..

In my neighborhood. A neighborhood joint you never tire to go to. they have Wonderfull specials and the prices are right too.

jledet. Cafe Degas is a treasure in New Olreans. An open French Cafe that serves GREAT food at reasonable prices. The atmosphere and service make this one of the best "small" restarants in a city of "BIG" names that are over-rated. Emerils' comes to mind... BAM...

Absolutely Perfect. During our visit to New Orleans, we stumbled across Cafe Degas. Wonderfully romantic and reasonably priced, it was, by far, the best meal we had during our vacation. The waitstaff was extremely friendly, the food was incredible. Although it's off the beaten path, it's definitely worth the trip.
