Editorial Review for Angelo Brocato Ice Cream – by Maura York

The Scene
The shelves at Angelo Brocato's homey Mid-City location burst with more than a dozen varieties of baked Italian treats. Ice cream coolers fill up most of the remaining space. Ceiling fans, iron chairs and tables with marble tops complete the store's old-time feel.

The Food
Brocato's packs a lot of sugar into its sweet little space. Crush your craving with an extensive selection of ice creams--nearly 31 flavors, from chocolate to spumoni. Or try fruit ices made with fresh raspberries, peaches and other seasonal fruits; they're lighter than ice cream, but more substantial than a snowball. Of course, for many, the pastries are the star at this family business. It's hard to choose from among Napoleons, eclairs, tiramisu and cannoli. Go with a group and order one of each.

Brocato's is truly a real treat. It has been renovated since Katrina, so it is now slightly larger than before (thank goodness!) Be prepared for a line on weekend nights. Seating is limited as well. Parking isn't always very convenient, BUT it is definitely worth it!

Pros: Authentic Italian Dessert Treats,Service

Cons: Parking, Limited Seating, Can Be Quite Crowded

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

I love the old time ambience of this place, yes parking is not highly available, but so worth it! the strawberries and cream ice cream is so great , and the cheesecake i'd rival to my favorites in New York! the ice cream is Very fresh, they make it every day... It is unlike any other Ice Cream I have ever had in my entire life (including homemade) it is a must try!

Pros: atmosphere, taste, freshness
