What People Are Saying About Uptown Auto Specialist
CON ARTISTS, STAY AWAY
by ElissaKerr at Citysearch
Unfortunately, there is no way to give a review of "0" stars. The owner of this shop, Paul, is a con artist. He will say anything over the phone to get you to bring your car into his shop. Once there, he will refuse to give you any price estimate and ask you to leave your car. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CAR WITH THIS MAN. He will later call you with an estimate that is 2-3 times the amount of the actual service. He tried to charge me $1200 for a $500 routine checkup. I did not authorize him to do ANY work on the vehicle and asked him to call me with an estimate before doing anything. When he called, at first, he said this is what needs to be done and when I told him not to do the work he said he had already done it, COMPLETELY changed his story! I should not have to pay anything, but I am willing to pay the RIDICULOUS $95 diagnostic fee (what is there to diagnose I TOLD him what needed to be done!) Con artist and a liar. All I want to know is how vultures like him stay in business?!!!
STAY AWAY!!!!!!

STAY AWAY! They charged me $900 for a $410 transmission service. I wish I had read the other negative reviews here, Yelp and on City Search first! Lesson learned.
Uptown Auto is WAY OVERPRICED
by JPKnola at Citysearch
We used to take our cars (VW, BMW, and Volvo) to UTAS. These folks must have it in with the Better Bsiness Bureau in order to get such good ratings.
They are nearly always behind, and the "estimate" nearly always increases. SHAME, shame, jerks!
Please get rid of that haughty egos.
I wish you could vote NO!
Vultures Waiting for Someone to Die

Vultures waiting for someone to die
I had a vehicle deliver to Uptown Auto Specialist after speaking with one of the mechanic.
Drop the keys in the mail drop. Following morning spoke with the receptionist. She said she would have Paul the owner to call.

Shannon, attached invoice from BMW. The vehicle has not been driven. Have Paul review the invoice and call me. I don’t want to duplicate the work that has been done.
I will forward another invoice from another company
Paul call discuss the problem with the car. Inquired about a diagnostic test. He stated he had the latest diagnostic equipment. We discuss cost which was $95.00. I gave authorization to the test, and provide me with the results. Paul return the call later that day with the results. He stated that he would have to change coils and spark plugs to see If the car would run which would cost around $1200.00.

Second invoice. Please consult me before doing any work. I want to sign off on any service order.
Upon arriving at Uptown Auto Specialist. Met with Paul in which we discuss his finding with the car. He presented me with a bill for $232.68 which I totally dispute which the agreement was for a diagnostic test. By the way the invoice did not have the codes for the test. I request that he
Provide me with the codes. At that time he had his mechanic to do a diagnostic test.
I have been working in the auto business for 26 years and I never have come in contact with a
Business that displayed a non professional and disrespectful service to the customer.
Companies like this gives the industry a black eye and should not be able to continue to pray on the customer local and out of town. Put a bad taste in your mouth.

Ripped off and incompetent
by VW driver at Citysearch
We took our VW there many times. I finally realized that they were replacing the spark plugs several times (the car only had 45,000 miles on it) for another problem. I did not realize this until I saw the final bill. The car had a window problem. They fixed it but it worked temporarily. When we took it back, they wanted to replace the motor again and charge it again to us! This happened with other issues. We finally got smart and took it elsewhere.
If you have a German car, we finally found a good place: German Auto Repair, Inc., in Harvey. Not as convenient to our Uptown home but the owner/mechanic is excellent.
- Pros: Ranger Roo, the Golden Retriever
- Cons: Expensive, did not any fix problems,
