The Scene
The Maple Leaf is a smallish place with a simple bar, a patio area in the back and a hammered-tin ceiling lending to its homey atmosphere. Its stark decor sits in direct contrast with the caliber of local talent on hand. The club's proximity to Tulane and Loyola guarantees a healthy mix of university students, and the surrounding Uptown neighborhoods furnish quite a mix of local characters as well.

The Draw

Blues, Cajun, funk, R&B and even locally accented rock acts (plus the occasional like-minded regional act) play for the madly swirling crowds--and make no mistake, they come here to party. You'll often find patrons dancing or milling about on the sidewalk outside, with a clear view of the back of the stage.

Loved this place...great atmosphere and the tin walls and ceiling are remarkable. We don't have tin bottles in OH so another tourist moment. Love that the vibe was in flux...meaning that the bar staff is impressive at being in the moment and shape shifts to the moment....wished I had seen it raccous. Wish it was my neighborhood bar...sigh.

Every time I visit New Orleans, I plan on spending Monday nights at the Maple Leaf. Papa Grows Funk carries on the tradition of great music from about 10 PM till closing. Friendly crowd that's a mix of locals (mostly) and out of towners, great bartenders, and music that makes you want to move. If you can get there early enough, eat at Jacques-Imo's two doors up the street. Great food and great service. A night out of the French Quarter - imagine that!

Great place to get away from the usual New Orleans scene. Things don't seem to get going until after 10, but then it rocks. Great place to hear music, meet some good people, and enjoy a non-Bourbon Street experience. You're in for a great time if they have a crawfish boil.....served in rounds on a 3 by 5 sheet of plywood placed over the pool table with corn on the cob. S*** the head!
