Editorial Review for Clancy's Restaurant – by Pableaux Johnson
The Scene
Depending on your perspective, Clancy's is either a formal neighborhood joint or a casual contemporary bistro. Either way, this secluded Uptown restaurant draws rave reviews and serves a dedicated local clientele. Celebrating families, goo-goo eyed couples and reminiscing old friends share the dining room and adjoining bar on any given night.
The Food
Expect to find innovative twists on Creole favorites, heavy on the seafood and solid grilled items. Crab fans rejoice. There always seem to be plenty of options here, including a smoked soft-shell crab that brings new depth of flavor to the pan-fried classic. (Did I mention that it's also smothered in sauteed lump crabmeat?) Other good bets are the substantial beef tenderloin with equally powerful yet complimentary flavors of port and English Stilton--the king of bleu cheeses. Clancy's bartenders are known for their generous hand when pouring pre-dinner cocktails, so brace yourself for a good belt.

When I first arrived by taxi I was rather shocked at the outside look of the restaurant. It was in a local neighborhood that you wouldn't think a restaurant should be located in. However, Clancy's was recommended from a concierge in a five star spa in San Diego the week before when I was staying there. So I went in and was pleasantly surprised. You can tell by the first name greeting of people, that there was a lot of local business. It was definitely off the beaten trail. That night the fish of the day was trout. Not what I expected in New Orleans. The waiter said they check for fresh catch daily and if they have good trout they will serve it. IT WAS THE BEST TROUT I EVER HAD. Service was excellent. In my job I eat at a lot of fine restaurants. This one exceeded my expectations. I look forward to going again when I am back in New Orleans.
Pros: Service, Nice and Friendly
Cons: Parking did not look good. Your in a Neighborhood.

Best place in NOLA to have dinner with good friends. Oysters with brie not to be missed. Bar downstairs is small but lots of fun before or after dinner (or both)
Pros: Great food & Service
Cons: Parking is tough
