The Scene
The crowd is a concentration of frat-boy types (mostly from nearby Tulane) who are eager for cheap drinks and bar burgers, along with those who have yet to discover the wide world of New Orleans bars. The smell of stale beer is a constant inside, but outdoor seating provides a multitude of attractions. An attached pizza shop and small convenience store attract walk-ins. The Boot sports a bare-bones feel much like college bars across the nation. A giant stuffed manta ray on the ceiling is the one nod to actual decorating. Renovations have made the bathrooms tolerable.
The Draw
There's no jukebox, and the music (mostly college and indie rock) is programmed by the comely bartenders. Other non-human attractions include a pool table, several video poker machines and a couple of video games.

This is not one of my favorite places to go, but is definitely convenient for Tulane students. One plus is that its easy to get in as long as you're 18 and drinks are reasonably priced. The crowd however is not usually local and the music is often pop or country which is favorable to some but I don't really care for it. The pizza from the Dough Bowl which is connected to the bar is great however. I definitely would not say this bar is an essential part of the New Orleans experience but it can be a good place to drink for cheap.

I wouldn't bother going here if you're over 21. I'm 28 and the few times I ventured in here, it was like stepping back 10 years straight into a frat party. Of course I felt ridiculous, being by far the oldest person in there! It's strictly a college bar (Tulane, specifically; TJ Quills, the equivalent Loyola bar, is just down the street.) It's a shameless meat market where everyone's wasted on Bud light. I imagine you will love this place if you're a college freshman, otherwise, stay far away!

I have gone to Mardi Gras a couple of times with friends and one of our tradtions is to go to this bar and drink hurricanes. They have fun contests for different prizes and great drinks. A trip to Mardi Gras would not be the same without one of us riding back on the trolley drunk on Hurricanes from the Boot with our souvenier cups!
