Editorial Review for Vera Cruz Mexican Restaurant – by Jill Gottesman
In Short
This is a colorful little place on a corner of funky Maple Street. It features an earthy, mustard-colored exterior, which gives way to a bright, rustic interior with terra cotta tiling and heavy wooden tables and chairs. The menu is traditional Mexican all the way: enchiladas, burritos, tacos and more. The best thing is the summer evening scene, when frozen margaritas and chips on the patio are in order to cool off after a long, sweaty day.

Being from San Antonio I might be a little picky when it comes down to mexican food b/c I am spoiled there, but I live in New Orleans now and have still yet to find descent mexican food. Vera Cruz I tought was terrible. The food sucked and the margaritas were too sweet, which I hate. Don't go.
Pros: Atmoshere is okay
Cons: Food, Margaritas

If you have a hankering for Mexican in the Uptown university area & no time to go elswhere, it is an OK place. The dishes are tasty & service adequate, but nothing to write home about. Patio ambience is a plus. However, Taqueria Corona, a short drive away on Magazine near State St. might be a better choice for a more authentic meal & more creative recipes.
Pros: Location, Ambience, Good value
Cons: Fairly ordinary food, Noisy college crowds, Crowded parking
