If this is the best, eat thai or creole. Everyone I've met recommended 5 Happiness as the best Chinese in town. If that is true, I will wait until I take a trip elsewhere to eat Chinese food again. New Orleans has so many great places to eat but this is not one of them. The chicken was dry, the hot and sour soup was bland, and the vegetarian egg rolls contained unidentifiable (meat?) items. If you are craving asian food, go for Thai. There are plenty of better (and cheaper) places for Thai.

Happiness indeed. Don't even bother with other Chinese restaurants in town -- Five Happiness IS the best, whether you eat there or order take-out. The service is always congenial and accommodating, from hostess (who doubles, with equal grace, as the order-taker for phone-ins) to servers, and you never feel rushed, even when all the dining rooms are packed. The food is unmatched in the area, as far as traditional Chinese food goes. I dream about Five Happiness' pot stickers, crab ragoons and kung pao chicken.

Food fit for an emperor. Pish-tosh to the naysayers who disparage Five Happiness in comparison to some Asian food Shangri-Las up north. This is one of the very best restaurants in town, and hands-down the very best place for Chinese food within your average nuclear blast radius. I especially recommend the General's chicken, spicy and sweet-sour, as well as the chicken-fried rice, the best you can get in New Orleans. The atmosphere is just short of fancy, which is perfect for the hordes of Birkenstock-clad professionals with no sense of style who crowd the place most nights and weekends.
