Editorial Review for St. Louis Cathedral – by Laurence Station
The Overview
The St. Louis Cathedral was built in the 1720s and dedicated to France's King Louis IX. Its facade is famous the world over, but given its proximity to an equally famous (make that infamous) attraction--namely, Bourbon Street--it poses an interesting contradiction. Perhaps after partying in one of the most debauched thoroughfares on the planet, revelers will remember where to repent on Sunday.
The Experience
The church has married an array of famous faces, including local-boy-made-good Harry Connick Jr. (to supermodel Jill Goodacre) and New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial (to newscaster Michelle Miller). Aside from its functional purpose, the cathedral also has a gift shop, where one can pick up trinkets, T-shirts and literature detailing its fascinating history.

From the austere exterior, to the opulent interior, this is a treasure you must see. Whatever denomination you may be, the mass is still a magical occurence in the oldest cathedral in the country.
