Well-preserved and comfortable 19th-century surroundings..
The Scene
Don't let the Bourbon Street address scare you away from of this jewel of a hotel. It sits on a residential section of the notorious thoroughfare in the Lower Quarter. The downstairs parlor looks as if has been painstakingly preserved from its 1849 beginnings. But unlike in a museum, you're allowed to pick through the books on the shelves and make yourself at home on the sofas.
The Details
The hotel has 14 rooms, all done with antiques and reproductions. Here and there a contemporary couch or piece of furniture has made its way into the decor--the effect is charming, reminiscent of a family home where sentiment and comfort are freely intermingled. Many of the accommodations have canopied beds and some have balconies. All have private baths.
