Do not miss!. Great live music. Multiple locations. Got to have a Hand Grenade, but the other specialty drinks are awesome too. The Shark Attack is awesome!

Wannabe beach bums looking for a change in latitude--but not attitude--should dock at one of these watering holes.. The Scene
Jimmy Buffett may have opened his own club over on Decatur (the Margaritaville Cafe), but on any given night, you're more likely to find loyal parrotheads hanging out at one of these two French Quarter establishments. That's because both Tropical Isles are much closer in look and spirit to the kind of club one of Buffett's characters might actually frequent--or even own.

The Draw
If fans can't have the real McCoy, they'll settle for the next best thing; local musician Al Miller is billed as the "Cajun Jimmy Buffett," and he frequently performs solo or with his band, Late as Usual, at the Toulouse location (the Bourbon Street outpost features weekend music as well). Tropical Isle's biggest claim to fame, however, is its trademarked Hand Grenade drink, a powerful concoction whose cartoon symbol (a drunken hand grenade) adorns a multitude of merchandise, from T-shirts to condoms.

"Hold my drink...". Tropical Isle seemed to us to be typical of other dives along Bourbon Street; but we weren't drawn there for the ambience. It was "the window" we were looking for, that dark slash in the back of the bar from which Hand Grenades were dispensed to the unsuspecting, liquor-hungry throngs streetside. And find "the window" we did. Only moments later, merrily weaving out way down Bourbon, with novelty grenade mugs in hand, did we realize the power of this drink from Hell. Yes, they were tasty. Yes they were easy to drink. But why had we suddenly started wobbling and laughing hysterically. Try one(or two) and find out for yourself.
