Authentic old-school jazz packaged for the tourist set. – The Scene
This friendly, slightly worn-looking cafe is frequented mostly by tourists and devout fans, local and otherwise, of classic Dixieland jazz. The upscale atmosphere, including tile floors and an elegant hardwood bar, lends a faint aura of sterility to the proceedings.
People wander in for the music: serious, old-school jazz delivered hot and fresh, five nights a week. Inasmuch as any musical experience is informed by its environment, the impact of the music is lessened by the club's genteel surroundings. Still, the traditional stylings rendered here are worth hearing, especially when served up by the likes of Gregg Stafford, Lionel Ferbos and former Harry Connick Jr. trombonist Lucien Barberin.
One of New Orlean's gems – If you want old fashioned New Orleans Jazz and a really decent creole meal, you'll love Palm Court. The hostess/owner is an absolute sweetheart. Very friendly and personable. The music is dixieland, which as a local isn't may favorite, but it's always very good. And if you want have fun, tappin' your feet while filling your belly, there aren't many places better.
Extremely fair prices for a live music club, and much better food than you might expect.
