Great music, funky atmosphere.
Go see Soul Rebels Brass Band on Thursday nights. Lots of fun. It gets packed in there and pretty hot, but the sweating is totally worth it. You can wear anything from shorts to a dress, anything goes. Band never goes on on time of course, but the music they pipe over the speakers is fun to dance to. (No cover, but 21+ FYI)

Unpretentious and inviting hangout with live music for any night of the week..
In Short
A popular destination for college students and trendy young professionals, patrons mingle in the bar's cozy, familiar environs, drinking beer and chatting with friends. The place can get crowded in a hurry, with a good number of patrons spilling into the second bar area in the back, which also features a small kitchen that churns out better-than-average finger food. There's live music Wednesdays through Saturdays, featuring rock, jazz, blues and zydeco acts.

Can't skip it.
The name says it all (translate: Let the good times roll). Live music in the back and pool up front. Kitchen that serves cheese fries and other munchies. Uptown, on Magazine Street. Soul Rebels is a must.

Find this place.
For those who are visiting New Orleans, take in the spectacle that is the Bourbon Street/the French Quarter, but leave enough time to seek out this bar -- this is a real-deal for locals. It's almost always crowded but congenial, and the live shows are often the same folks you'd pay dearly to see elsewhere.
