What Our Expert Scouts Say

May 14, 2013

You can go anywhere in New Orleans to eat oysters, but you should got to Casamento's. Honestly, they're the same oysters, but the place has a kind of magic, timeless ambience, and fat housecats that lope around full of oysters, and a wonderful oyster loaf. It's the quintessence of NOLA.

What a rip-off!. The gumbo had two microscopic shrimps and no other evidence of seafood ingredients. My sandwich was no better than is usual in much less expensive N.O. places. The table was dirty and was not cleaned. before we were served (or at any time). The waitress was surly. The kitchen is atrocious, and the restroom is worse.

WORST service that I've ever received!!!. Don't bother wasting half an hour in line to get a table in this restaurant. Not worth it. Go to ACME or the Gumbo Shop in FQ instead. For a superb meal and awesome service, go to Emeril's.

We came to Casamento after seeing it on TV, but the menopausal waitress was SO rude to us that made us wonder how the restaurant made to the food network. She knew that we were upset about her hideous attitude and poor serivice, but she had the audacity to add a $18% gratutity to our bill (for party of 6, are you kidding me?).

So you can put up with a long wait and rude service for some okay food, try this place. I've had more than enough.

Pre-game for Ms. Mae's. I got a nice big oyster loaf dressed. The oysters were fried nicely, but I got a lot of flavor from the oil they fried them in. I don't know if they change the oil often enough and clean out the fryer, or maybe the temperature is too low. Anyways, I was non-plussed with the bread they used. I feel that there is nothing more important for a sandwich with fried oysters than Leidenheimer bread. I don't know why they wouldn't just serve it as a poboy instead of a loaf, maybe it's tradition there, but there is a BIG difference between what they had and good New Orleans French Bread. The portion was big, bring an appetite. My friend got a fried seafood platter, another big portion, but all the items tasted the same (the oil problem, again). Because of the big portion size, I would recommend Casamento's before a big night at Ms. Mae's.

Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors. Known for its oyster dishes, this restaurant also serves other seafood like fried calamari, shrimp and crab fingers.
