Editorial Review for Bluebird Cafe – by Hilary Doherty
The Scene
The weekend produces lines of college students and tattooed patrons snaking down the sidewalk in front of the neon orange, green and blue building. Inside, the plain wooden tables that barely support the upcoming feast. The friendly staff is prompt, sailing through the large room exchanging knowing glances and jokes, lost on all except those who pocket the tips.
The Food
The sticky menu dishes up many choices. Huevos rancheros are stacked with soft tortillas, creamy beans, veggies and fluffy eggs. The massive burger is just like the ones Dad made on the barbecue, minus the burnt edges. Add a huge, healthy salad and wash it down with freshly squeezed orange juice. Skim over the latest music mag amid the young and unshaven while noshing on the unique stuffed tomatoes, brimming with tuna or chicken salad.

Well worth the 10 minute taxi ride from the quarter. Great potatoes, Huevos Rancheros, and migas(scrambled eggs with chilies, tortilllas, and cilantro), to die for. Quick, friendly service, and allthough we had to wait in line to get in, it moved very fast. Enjoy.
Pros: Great food

There is a reason this place is so popular - it's great. My grilled cheese was to die for. Coffee is so-so, but what do you expect from a diner? Takes a while to get in on the weekends but service is pretty fast. Very no-fuss. Server gives you the ticket when the food comes, and you pay at the register when you are done. If you're by yourself or with one other person, you can usually get a spot at the bar quickly. They have a bunch of books and magazines if you're by yourself.
Pros: quick service, good prices
Cons: street parking (metered on weekdays), bad coffee
