The Scene – This Magazine Street cottage might be the most unassuming, unsung bistro in the city. The tiny indoor space creates an intimate French cafe vibe, while the spacious patio offers a lush, hidden garden feel. This romantic neighborhood gem is a relaxing haunt for Uptown executives and the "Daddy's buying" university crowd. – – The Food – While the ambience might be classic French, the menu pulls influences from world cuisines--especially fruit and savory combinations--without undue flourish or flash. Very POOR!

Brunch at Martinique Bistro was one of the most disappointing meals that I have experienced in New Orleans. To put it mildly, service was awful and the food was not much of an improvement. To start, I had the tomato soup. It was very salty and since my server never brought us water, I was dying of thirst. For my main course, I ordered the Tuna salad, which was very dry and tasted like liquid smoke. I hope things improve, but I will never be returning to find out.

  • Pros: nice outside seating.
  • Cons: we were seated next to propane tanks

Bad Service

by oeil21

We were seated in the courtyard late this summer and were instantly swarmed with mosquitoes as soon as we sat down. Our waitress declared she was allergic to the coils that were keeping other guests bite free - finally I had to walk over to another table and pick one up myself. I guess maybe it went straight to her head because we finally had our bread brought to us by another waiter after we had finished our entrees. And why couldn't we just move inside? The air conditioner must have been set on about 55. Food was fine but not the best ever. I didn't find it seemed like a french bistro at all except for the meat dominated menu.

  • Pros: Eat here
  • Cons: And be eated alive
