A little bit of everything for human and home, with an artistic twist..
The Scene
The first clue that you've reached Utopia is the collection of Crayola-colorful handpainted cabinets that stand sentry on the porch. These are the work of Houston artist David Marsh, who repaints vintage and junked pieces in crazy colors, often augmented with pressed tin or halved agate marbles.
The Draw
Inside the funky shotgun house is a kaleidoscope of things that glitter, jingle, soothe or smell nice?the perfect gift pool for your average 21st century bohemian. Think hand-dipped candles, beaded jewelry, lampshades of handmade paper on brushed aluminum bases, tea towels with retro graphics, arty picture frames and throw pillows filled with potpourri. There are also racks of hippie-chic clothing in jewel-toned, earth-friendly fabrics like velvet, shantung, recycled natural fibers and nubbly wool from designers like Putumayo and Tom Tom.
