An 1831 landmark home with a working outdoor kitchen..
Overview
This National Historic Landmark reflects the French Quarter era when it was the center of town. Restored to reflect its 1831 splendor, the Hermann-Grima House is furnished with
period antiques much like those used by the wealthy Creole family who inhabited the mansion. Moreover, the historic house still maintains its original outdoor kitchen, celebrating the century-plus functioning of the open hearth with regular cooking demonstrations open to the public.
Features
The house also hosts programs and special events year round based on the cultural aspect of life from the 1830s to the 1860s. Themed tours touch on 19th-century societal mores, such as mourning rituals and typical familial activities. And like most historic homes in the area, Hermann-Grima is actively updated to represent the seasons, donning its summer "dress"?lighter fabrics throughout to aid ventilation?in the sweltering middle months and festive holiday adornment at year's end.…
Interesting historic home. I went to this house museum mainly to see the outdoor kitchen, which they still use for cooking demonstrations periodically. The home is well-restored, and the tour was informative.
