Why so defensive?. I called JCM 's Dog Training School regarding my dog. I am a new pet owner and I have never had any professional training for my dog. I made the mistake of asking some questions about her training methods. I did not think my questions were out of line for a new owner. I got the following response from JCM.

"The February Metairie class was full when you had called previously, and you were not able to enroll. I understand that you are wishing to enroll in the upcoming April class. However, the trainer whom had spoken with you on that previous occasion, made a notation that you had concerns in regard to the training equipment required for the program. You had also expressed a deep concern about our school hurting your dog. First of all, let me assure you that the intention of our obedience school is not to cause harm to any dog. We have dedicated a lifetime to understanding and working with dogs. We are passionate about helping dogs and their owners. Our service provides an educational, and effective learning experience for owners wishing to better understand and train their pets. To imply we are in the business to harm dogs is an insult the strikes at our very core. We ask that you please find another school. Please do not call or e-mail. This decision is final. Sorry for any inconvenience, Annette Cascio "

I never implied that the school would hurt my dog. I just wanted to know about the training. You can go anywhere on the internet and find pros and cons regarding the use of a pinch collar for training. Apparently, you can not even ask these people questions without getting a nasty response. I will find another school for my dog. One that will respect me as well as my dog.

Professional trainer, wonderful school. There is always going to be jealousy in this world. The review written below by SthrnLuv, aka OctoberMoon is a trainer from Petco. She does not agree with JCM's philosophy in regard to dog training, nor does she like what their website has to say, so she is going to all of the review sites bashing these people.

JCM's has been in business for 31 years. That, in itself, is saying something. Take what people like SthrnLuv says with a grain of salt.

Beware. I would not recommend JCM's for your dog...i had a bad experience with the owner. very unprofessional in her attitude. I have since found a much nicer & more professional trainer in the nola area.

Assistance Dog. Hi. My name is Jason, and I am hearing impaired. There was a fire in my apartment building and I almost died. I bought a 5 year old Golden Retriever from JCM's. Their Goldens go by the name of "Copperfield." The people there also do dog training. The dog was already Service Dog trained when I got him. I know it sounds silly, but this dog is my soul mate. He even understands sign language. I highly recommend a Copperfield Golden for anyone looking for an assistance dog.

I liked my experience with JCM's Dog Training School. Guess what. I went to Mrs. OctoberMoon when she trained at PetCo. OctoberMoon, you should be ashamed of yourself writing that review below entitled "Deceiving." I am sorry to say, but, you are a PetCo graduate know nothing with your almighty PetCo Certificate in Dog Training. You are no world class expert and authority on dog behavior and obedience training. You used me and other people like me to practice on. I was one of those people ready to get rid of my dog because what I learned from you didn't work. I felt that I owed it to Rex to try one more time.

I found JCM's website before I enrolled in their dog training school, after I wasted my money with you at PetCo. I knew from class number one that JCM's trainer knew what she was doing. Her website was beautifully written and enlightening. Everything on JCM's website in relation to Positive Reinforcement is TRUE. The only deception I see going on here is you trying to put somebody else down to make yourself feel better and important. OctoberMoon, you are a dog training wannabe loser. If you're going to knock somebody, look in the mirror first.

I highly recommend JCM's Dog Training School.

Experienced, Outspoken Trainer. JCM's website is NOT deceptive.

This is the most honest, straight forward website I've come across.

The person writing the review entitled "Deceiving" is a little on the defensive. JCM's website compares training methods, & does not put down any trainer. This trainer acknowledges that the information is based on the complaints dog owners have voiced to her about training methods that don't work. JCM's training techniques work, and owners get results. JCM's even offers a money back guarantee.

OctoberMoon should make his own website, & not bash a qualified professional trainer.

This lady lies. This trainers website is FULL of deceiving put-downs towards other training methods. She blames Positive Reinforcement methods for putting "many of these dogs in shelters because they are worse after training than before." Those are exact words from her website.

Now, as a dog trainer myself (and not a hobby trainer!), I use both positive reinforcement (praise and an occasional treat) AND corrections. I also know all about dog psychology, pack hierarchy, and so on that she claims trainers like me know nothing of. I find half of what this trainer claims to be VERY VERY wrong. Her methods may work, but that does not mean they are the ONLY methods that work. She also uses propaganda on her website (showing someone using a food lure next to a bite mark on a hand, showing very obese dogs who obviously have a thyroid disorder to say treats are bad, etc). I can truthfully say she is wrong in that positive reinforcement does not work. I have trained many, many dogs to become great, obedient pets who ALWAYS listen using a well-rounded program that includes, but is not limited to, positive reinforcement. Besides, if she is so good why does she need to put down other methods all over her website? Shouldn't her work speak for itself?

I am just going to say that while her methods may work, I personally would not trust a trainer who so adamantly puts down other methods and other trainers to the point she is blaming them for dogs being euthanized! Seems as if she is trying to justify her methods a little too much and as a potential client I would be wary of that.

UPDATE: This trainer tracked me down and wrote this to me "You are not a professional trainer. You don't even qualify as an amateur trainer. If you continue to post derogatory statements, you will be sued for slander, we will see to it."

Nothing I said above was derogatory. I simply questioned why a trainer would go to so much trouble to put down another method and said I would be wary of that. She should not need to badmouth other trainers and their methods if hers work so well.

She did not take the time to ask my experience and just assumed I have no experience and that I am simply a "Petco" trainer. NOT TRUE. I worked at a Petco for 2 months after moving to a new city. I have worked with MANY veteran trainers in the Los Angeles area and am certified as a trainer through an actual training academy. I also have been training for years and have had many happy clients. Please do research when looking for a dog trainer and make up your own mind as to weather her claims have a leg to stand on. Also, please note that she is not a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and is not certified by the Certification for Professional Dog Trainers.

Her tracking me down to just put me down and threaten me tells me all I need to know about how she runs her business. There is more than one way to do things in this world. Dog training included.

UPDATE #2: I found out that this lady also lies. She posted a review on here for JCM's All Breed Dog School under the name "Mark Johnson 1082" saying she had come to me for training and I made her want to get rid of her dog. Well she posted this exact same thing, word for word but with the name "JeanC101", under my profile on a website called CityData. She must have tracked my name OctoberMoon to that site. Please be aware she posts on here under fake names to give herself more stars.

This is in response to the post by reyn 1200. The lady that wrote the review entitled "nasty facility" must have JCM's Pet Boarding Facility confused with someone else's place. If you notice in her comments, she does not mention JCM's, or that she is referring to JCM's at all.

I have used Jean several times and her place has always been clean. Jean's genuine devotion is reflected in the dogs in her care. It is completely absurd that there was, or would have ever been feces and urine on the floor that a potential client would have to step over. I am very pleased with the service. My 2 dogs have always come home happy. I'm sure the "reyn 1200" lady must have made a mistake.
